My nephew got some sticky stuff all over the face plate of the radio and in an attempt to get it off he used a solvent that destroyed the plastic. I took it to my toyota dealer and they have a place to send damged and vandalized radios. It"s supposed to look good as new when I get it back. Here is the problem that I find hard to believe. After they pulled the radio the service guy came to me and said that because of pulliing the radio I had lost the fuction of my MFD and climate control. He said I may have even lost the function of my air bags but he didn't know. I had to sign a release to get my car back. I drove the car home. The airbag light is functioning so I hope the airbags are working. My question is this. How is it possible for a dealer that has sold the Prius for almost ten years not to know this was going to happen and by driving around like this will I be doing any damage to the car. All of the warning lights on the dashboard seem fuctional

We had a problem with the CD player in our 2004 and the dealer also pulled the radio to send it in. We, and the dealer, were surprised that the MFD did not work, but we got by using the buttons on the steering wheel. It meant we couldn't manually turn the a/c on or off, but we generally use the temperature control settings anyway. End result - no major problems and the CD player now works correctly. Unfortunately, the dealer was not as versed in the schematics as I'd hope dealers now would be since the car has been out 4 years. Good luck.

Thanks for the response. I called Toyota customer service yesterday and was routed to a tech who told me all systems would be working fine. The climate control works with the steering controls just as you said it would. For some strange reason the backup camera still works. The dealer I took the car to claims to be the largest in Minnesota as far as volume is concerned. I think that 2008 will be the tenth birthday of the Prius. I still can't believe that after servicing the Prius all this time they still didn't know what happens when you pull a radio and that scaring the crap out of me was entirely uncalled for.

Might be an isolated case of an inexperienced staff in that dealership.
