This might be slightly off topic, but since the thread has gone technical related to engine types:

How hard would it be technically/financially to offer any toyota car in HSD made to order like Mini's production style?

These pages on Toyota's Japanese web site would indicate that they are at least considering a diesel hybrid design.

However, they also note the PM and NOx are problems that must be solved for a viable diesel powered hybrid since their primary focus is on an "eco" car.

I agree with Donee's points that the gasoline powerplant is currently a better "synergistic" match with the HSD design.
