Default Nav question

Hi, everyone;

Just got a new 2008 Prius.

Having used a Garmin Nuvi GPS for some time, I am wondering why the Prius Nav is not at all as accurate.
It shows my address as 40 + house numbers higher that reality.
That's more than the "within 150 feet" accuracy.

Is there something in setup that I missed ??

Thanks.

The accuracy of the Prius NAV is just as good as your Garmin. What you are experiencing is the map database. Toyota and Garmin use different companies for their map data. Garmin's is better in some areas, Toyota's in others. Street numbering is one of the areas where map information is often in error, as there is no solid base for street numbering systems.

Cool Re: Nav question

Welcome to PriusChat, SKPLLC! I presume you know where your home is, so when setting the Home destination, use whatever you like that's nearby if you don't want to use the location of your car in the driveway.

Of more concern is whether your Prius nav is accurate at street intersections. How's that looking?

My 2005 is perfectly accurate. 40+ house numbers is unheard of in my experience... Mine is accurate to within inches to feet. Give more details.

OK, Here is what I did...
I punched in my "present location."
The address (house/street #) came up 89 instead of 49....

ALSO, is there a feature that allows a voice to say the street name of the upcoming turn in a town or rural area ??
All I see that comes close is the split-screen Freeway only turn info.
Thanks...

The street number comes from the map database. As posted earlier, these are often in error, and usually involve some heuristics relating to starting and ending street numbers.

The Toyota NAV system does not speak upcoming streets. The names are displayed as text for upcoming turns, but not spoken aloud.

I purchased a new Prius in April. The navigation system is constantly taking me off the expressway and placing me on rural routes. Recently it took me off the ramp and had me get back on. I went to the dealer and they gave me no advice.
I'm a real estate agent and really depend on the accuracy of the system.
I will always have my Garmin in the car as a back up.
Do these navigation systems have to be updated?

Most likely it's because of the routing options you have selected. If you select the shortest route it will do exactly that: take you off of the highway and onto the shortest goat path that connects points A and B. Also, you can select routing options that exclude the interstate system.

Updates are available from Toyota, but they charge a lot for them. They come as a new DVD that is inserted into the NAV box under the driver's seat.
