The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Toyota plans to add two new members to the Prius family to on sale in dealerships by the end of 2012, according to unnamed dealer sources who said Toyota made the announcement at their national dealership meeting. One of the new members of the Prius family is what is currently known as the Alpha and was caught by spy photographers in the photo above. This new member of the Prius family is said to gain 50% more interior space and storage than the current Prius. Nothing was said about a 3rd row of seats that would enable the Prius Alpha to carry 6 or 7 passengers. I expect this model to achieve less than the 3rd Generation Prius' 50 MPG, but greater than 40 MPG.
The 2nd model is a smaller Prius, closer in size to the Toyota Yaris. Perhaps this will be the model that is close to what we've seen in the FT-CH concept, which we covered back in January. This model is one that could reach 60 MPG.
The last time we had a dealer meeting that covered the Prius, PriusChat's good friend bossdowner showed up with a bunch of exclusive photos of the 2010 Prius. Come on out, bossdowner!
