Regarding their statement, "The latest Prius will "turn the heads" of drivers familiar with the current Prius shape, used on both the second-generation (2004-2009) and current (2010-2015) models.", the real question is: will it be heads or stomaches that get "turned" by the new design?

Technically it was available on Volkswagen diesels in the mid 90s (at least in Europe)

I remember Ford mocking Prius way back in 2001, flaunting how much nicer their rapid-start approach would be on their soon-to-be-available start-stop vehicles. That "soon" took way longer than promised.

The also promised, along with GM, that 50% of production would be flex-fuel by 2010. Remember that huge ethanol distraction? Ugh.

A plug-in with a 40-mile range would be a game changer. Guess I should be happy if they can achieve 20.
Either of them might be enough to dissuade me from grabbing a Tesla 3, even though that's still 3 years out at the minimum.

Like the FCV? I think the FCV looks "modern" but I believe it turns other stomachs

I love all these delusional ads by many car manufacturers especially diesel manufacturers touting their Highway MPG, but saying very little about their pathetic City MPG. Yes, you are so right most consumers do care about the truth in MPG(City/Combined), but the gullible will always fall for the worthless HWY MPG. Diesel Car makers are notorious for this.

According to the more stringent 2014 CARB vs the more lenient 2014 EPA, your BMW could only a achieve a smog score of 6, where as the Prius is rated a 9.

Smog Rating* Emission Standard NMOG + NOx (g/mile)
    10 ZEV, Bin 1 0.000
    9** ATPZEV, PZEV 0.030
    8 SULEV, LEV2 SULEV, Bin 2 0.030
    7 Bin 3 0.085
    6 Bin 4 0.110
    5 LEV 2 ULEV 0.125
    4 LEV 2 LEV, Bin 5 0.160
    3 Bin 6 , SULEV (Medium Duty Vehicle) 0.190 - 0.200
    2 Bin 7 0.240
    1 Bin 8, LEV 2 ULEV (MDV), LEV 1 ULEV 0.325 - 0.356

Diesels just can't get close to 3rd gen Prius or the 4th Gen Prius when it comes to Smog Score or City/Combined MPG! Diesels belong with the Dinosaurs, extinct already!

I just ran outside and took a picture of my '04. The car is currently 700 feet in altitude above where it was when I filled up, so this will go up above 62 when I get back to normal altitude.

This is really awesome for 216 miles. Today was my best mpg day yet; Day 13 of this 2011 Prius.

Yep, very common to see high 50's, even over 60 on gauge in regular Prius liftback. While conventional cars are brought to their knees MPGwise in gridlock, Hybrid Synergy Drive just laughs at gridlock and busts out the Big MPGs.

My wife and I were stuck in a three-hour-long gridlocked highway earlier this summer south of Washington DC and Richmond, VA. Several times while inching along she asked "Is the gas engine still off?" I kept replying "Yup."

Hmm, I feel like that's not obvious enough.

Could just be touting all generations vs the 4th. I would rather see that billboard with a covered vehicle as the fourth. As far as I know, Toyota is pushing the 3rd gen hard until next year
