With instructions (Not the best) and the man that sells them is always quick to respond via email. I know, because I had a question

It's from Venice California! Venicehybridtech. It doesn't discharge so I'm trying to figure a way to discharge my Prius battery.

The charger shown on page one (From the PriusChat Shop) is in my opinion not safe.

The charging cables should be terminated with diodes at the battery terminal end, so that discharging through the cables is impossible.

Regarding deep discharging: This can be done by putting the transmission into N and then adjusting the current draw by turning aircon, lights and other power consumers on or off. A slower discharge rate would be preferable (I could not get it to go below 1.7A), but it is better than nothing. It might be possible to supplement the 12V system with an external charger or power supply to reduce the current draw on the HV battery, but I have not tried this.
If the battery is well balanced, each cell gets discharged down to about 1.2V. If the battery is not so well balanced, then some cells will reach a lower voltage than 1.2V.
See below Torque app screenshot taken just before the hybrid system shut down the DC/DC converter while discharging in N mode (2008 Prius):

And next a screenshot taken about 20s later, DC/DC converter is now off, not that HV battery current has dropped to 0.1A (from 1.7A) and 12V system voltage has dropped to 12.1V (from 14.0V when Dc/Dc converter was running):

Building charger for traction battery is not that hard. I designed and built my chargers from tested and certified quality power boards, blocks and components made in Japan and South Korea.
Input: 100-240V AC - they will work worldwide. Isolated, OVP protection. Constant Current. Different models provide different voltages (for Prius, Camry, Lexus, Highlander and Honda) and currents - from 1 to 2 and also 6-8 amps in my own stationary set up.
Model for Lexus is not displayed on my site yet. That one is operated from 12V DC or from 100-240 AC with optional power supply.

For interested garages in USA - I can ship to US or you can have vacation in New Zealand and bring one back home. See Testing Complex - HYBRIDS

Hey there everyone! Sorry to resurrect an old thread like this, but this seemed like a good place to ask - I've only just purchased a 2012 model Prius C this week, does the PriusChat traction battery charger work with the Prius C?

Do you already own a charger?

There is not a Priuschat branded charger.
I think you mean the Hybrid Automotive brand charger?

Depends on which version you have.

If you are trying to ise thier gen2 Prius charger, you would likely need a different connector harness.

Noatter what brand you have, I would c ontact the mfg of the specific charger to be sure.
