welcome! $2500. is a great price for a new dealer battery. if you want something cheaper, shop around for a dorman rebuilt battery. i think they are around $1500. if you diy, or a few hundred more installed.
another alternative is replacing the bad cells. but this is labor intensive and requires some skills.
lastly, there is grid charging, which charges and dischargers the battery, and by doing so, rejuvenates it. but it is said to be better for a weak battery than a dead one.
    how bad is yours?

not really, but it's a personal decision. you may get many more years out of it, or you may keep sinking more money. it's easier for a diy er, than for someone who has to go to the dealer every time there's an issue.

i don't recall anyone in this area. try calling good news garage in cambridge, maybe they know of someone.

    Merged.

there are some interesting shoppes if you google hybrid automotive service in mass. make some calls, it could lead to someone. randy's auto service in midfield for example. they offer hybrid battery testing.

a fair warning: there are a lot of scammers out there who incorrectly replace bad cells, without proper balancing. the battery works initially, but soon fails, and they don't back their warranty. all the best!(y)

there's a cool website called 'hybridshoplocator'. run by the automotive career development center. (acdc)
they show a shoppe called wayside auto sales in seekonk, that does battery replacement.

Be very, very careful about cheap batteries.

How long do you want to keep the car?
If only for a few more months, then a sub-$1000 battery might make sense to take a risk and limp along.

If you plan on keeping it longer then $2,463 for another 150,000 miles of battery life might make sense.

DO NOT go the eBay/Craigslist route as this is just a module(s) replacement or swaping one junk battery for another dead battery. Too many stories of people reporting just days/weeks of usability, before P0A80 code comes up. Your hard earned money was just flushed down the drain. Here's a real life horror story with a happy ending. Elite Auto - Beware. Craigslist hybrid battery ads should make you leery | PriusChat

People are attracted to the Dorman battery b/c cheaper than a NEW Toyota HV Battery with a 3 year warranty vs Toyota's one year warranty. The major difference is one is made with all NEW components, the other is made with used batteries; which one do you think will last the longest? A Dorman highly unlikely of getting you to 100K+ miles b/c all the modules are used. Yes it has a warranty that you can use, but you will have to wait for the warranty replacement to arrive, and pay someone to install it or DIY; real world costs that many do not anticipate on experiencing, but many have.

Does the $2463 dealer price includes labor, tax, and a NEW HV Battery ECU? You can eliminate a few hundred by reusing the existing HV Battery ECU. Many here have done that w/o any problems.

If you are able to remotely DIY, see if your dealer will beat other Toyota dealer on-line prices?

    Something to think about.
    • Should you get the NEW battery, you could always put that into another Gen2 if something catastrophic happens to your current car.
    • The Gen2 modules can be transplanted into a Gen3 battery case.
    • Eliminate comprehensive on your current car, saving $400+ per year
    • $2463/100Kmiles = $.0246/mile
    • $2463/150Kmiles = $.0164/mile

That's a great price we are expecting $2500 for the battery and about $1000 for labor. We've never really heard a price that low (FROM THE DEALER).

Now what many have done to try to get lower price is call Toyota USA for out-of-warranty assistance. It is possible the dealer did this for you, but usually they do not do so. Would be interesting to inquire more about the dealer's cost breakdown to see why it is below our expectations.

We strongly recommend the new Toyota batt for true long term fix, if you can swing it.
