I was told by the dealer that the new DVD to update the maps & GPS will be available in Nov '11.

He couldn't tell me what new version it will be - but the price will be $250 and a service appointment.

I also see Nav / GPS update DVD's listed on eBay. These are listed as "2010 / 2011" and 10.1 U92 is the version and priced at $150 to $199.

How do I tell what my current version is?

I have a 2010 Gen III. The 3 DVD's listed on eBay are specifically listed as compatible with the '10 / '11 Prius (and not the '09 and older).

We are starting to run into maps that are wrong - some can be explained (like the new configuration of our local on-ramp to the freeway - new as of 3 months ago) - but other mistakes are less explainable.

I looked at some of the other posts - but they are related to older Prius ('05, '09) and they have different Nav systems.

DVDs published by Toyota typically come out annually in the fall, but the data is already a year old. It takes that long to collect, compile, manufacture/publish and distribute. Version 10 is newest, V11 should be out in the fall.

You can eject your disk and it will be labeled with the version information.

For most GPS systems, at least a year old, some roads don't get picked up for a few years. There are so few GPS map sources, it's prolly safe to say that none of them get all new roads within a year.

Stupid me - I did not check to see if there was a disk.
I thought you loaded a disk, then the data was transferred (uploaded) to the Nav system's storage and then you ejected the disk.
I guess the DVD is the Nav system's storage.

Is there any way to get more accurate Nav data besides the Toyota disk?

The GPS screen makes a nice mounting platform for a Garmin or Magellan GPS. That's really all the Toyota GPS is good for. I am totally disgusted with mine.

I agree, I hate the Toyota nav.. Wish I wouldve saved the money and went aftermarket.. Oh well !

The nav disc will never be perfect.. If there are specific roads u are concerned with having, I would ask a local dealership to pop in the new disc in a car and play with it to see if the roads u r looking for are there..
