The current $1500 incentive expires May 5. I'm wondering if the reported slow April sales # give a better chance for higher May incentive. Where does one find out how many vehicles are on the lots?

    I like to use cargurus.

It's a great resource for identifying which dealers within a specified radius have what you're looking for, how long they've sat on their lot, whether they've lowered the price, etc., etc.

Just type in the required information, and review all of the hits.

I don't know who reported US car sales as "slow" but it really doesn't matter. Prius was either the 18th or 19th best seller in the US. IMO, the best time to buy the car you want is when you find it sitting on the lot.

Lower gasoline prices are expected so this should soften Prius sales. The average age of the US fleet is over 11 years so there is a lot of potential demand. There are many lower end cars on the lot but very few from the higher end & PiP. If you wait long enough the 2014 leftover may be the lowest priced but there's no guarantee you'll find what you want.

Best wishes for finding exactly what you want at what you consider a good price.

April US auto sales reach 16 mln annualized rate

    5:08 PM ET, 05/01/2014 - Reuters
May 1 (Reuters) - Automakers reported a 8.1 percent rise in U.S. sales in April from a year
earlier with a seasonally adjusted annualized rate of sales reaching 16 million vehicles.

The annualized rate is followed by economists and is calculated using seasonal factors
supplied by the U.S. Commerce Department that account for sales from vehicles produced in North
    America or overseas.

Thanks guys, I'll check out that guru website and love the squeezing them like a lemon idea. :)

Jim: the most relative sales #'s would be Toyota Prius specific and not overall sales #'s. If you check, Prius sales are down relative to last year, previous month, etc.

I just bought a PIP with $4500 factory incentive, though that is expiring today. I have no idea what the next incentives are for the rest of June.
