    Hi All!

I haven't posted here a lot, forgive me if I picked the wrong forum or anything...

Yesterday I discovered a website called Frapper, which I think is really really cool... it's hard to describe but mainly it uses Google Maps in an interactive way... so I have started a map of all Prius users! It is here:

    http://www.risingconcepts.com/frapper/priusowners#

It is less than 24 ours, and we are up to nearly 200 members...but that is chickenfeed, there must be thousands registered here alone, and I want everyone to join. I know many of you belong to other groups, and I see that some of you are in already... a certain efusco, my old buddy Wayne Brown, that nice man with hsd on his forehead...;-)

I have to say, I think this is really cool technology, and it seems entirely appropriate to me that the Prius group should become the biggest map they have..please help!

I don't like to write to all known prius sites and groups, it doesn't seem good etiquette to me. But I do want everybody to know about the map. Would you all please have a look at any other sites you belong to, and consider posting a message to it, if you like the idea of a world map of Prius owners..

    Thanks! and best regards

    <_< No way!
I'm a software engineer and very concerned with identity theft.
Minimizing the amount of publicly availalable personal information is an important strategy in protecting yourself.

This site requires a zip code which could easily be correlated with other, publicly available information to identify you, your address, the size of your mortgage...

If you do register, I recommend using the zipcode a large city nearby rather than your real zipcode. ;)

    hi Evan!

I have added my pin to the member map, apparently I am the only member in the UK, and when I looked there were only 293 in the US!

I was wondering, Priuschat is such an impressively hitech site, could it be tied to member registration? you say where you're from, then it just adds the pin...

Regards, and in admiration of the sophistication of Priuschat...

Kiloran's concern is valid, although the most personal and accessible information about you is sealed with spit and glue -- your MAIL.

    <_< ease up man...you ignorant.

My background and the volume of other peoples personal information, over which I have complete access and little to no oversite makes me keenly aware of how easily this information can be accessed and abused.

I'm not paranoid, I'm reasonably cautious and I'm trying to help my fellow PriusChat members protect themselves by advising them to protect information which can be used to identify them. Nobody has to take my advise if they disagree with it.

Is this thing (Frapper) still working? I don't see any entries since the 18th, and I just tried entering mine. Also, the dots disappear below a certain zoom level.

Or at least use a zipcode in the same city or another area.

Sometimes you're helped by Frapper itself. I've created one for another group and was trying to add some. It wouldn't accept the zip for Gerlach, NV (tiny town and all PO boxes) or any from Boise ID. You have to pick a nearby town.

So how do you give it a zipcode then, if it rejects a whole bunch?

The alternative is to use the zip of the closest city. It's more vague, but works.

OK, define city in a suburban area. I've got Tampa about 50 miles away from me, and Brooksville about 20.

Not only that, but it doesn't tell you it rejected your entry.

HI Dan, and all. Yes, Frapper is working fine. We are up to 322 entries now, two of which are you...;-)

A number of people have contacted me about duplicates, errors etc. The following notes apply:

    NOTES ON FRAPPER

    - it is a beta programme, and is still developing and improving. It has occasional downtime for maintenance and upgrade
    - I have made all requested changes, but some changes have worked, and some apparently have not, at least not immediately
    - don't worry, I will monitor the list and will keep deleting duplicates
    - in general I delete the first entry in case of duplicates, so you can continue to update...
    - if you are aware of duplicates not cleared off for some time, let me know

On the subject of zip and post codes, remember that Frapper will never place your marker exactly in that zip code anyway. The FAQ say that it is always at least two miles from wherever you live... it doesn't bother me however, if someone wants to use a different postcode so long as it is not too far away... don't want to skew the map.

Many thanks to everyone who has taken the trouble to join!
PLEASE KEEP THEM COMING, TO MAKE AN IMPACT WE NEED EVERYONE TO JOIN THE MAP

    regards

    Jerry

Well, I still don't see me. Last entry was on the 18th! 2 more added since yesterday. If it doesn't update immediately, it is pretty useless.

Hi Dan... yes, you are there, I think: your entry says:

"Danman Spring Hill (FL) Not in Tampa, but in Tampa Bay area."

....and very nice it looks too. Is that you? It was there yesterday too..

Are there multiple page listings? I did a Edit|Find with my browser for danman, couldn't be found. Last entry I see still shows 10/18/2005.

Now the link doesn't work at all. Real slow when it did.
