From all I've seen so far, Gen4 is not as much of a breakthrough as Gen1, 2 and 3 were.

We will have to wait until cool-aid settles down, hard numbers become available and you can actually go to dealer and sit in one, but from what I've seen so far, Gen4 is a classic example of over-promising and under-delivering:

    1) it weights the same as Gen3
    2) it has less power
    3) MPG improvements are marginal at best
    4) and it is ugly (not my personal opinion)

So Toyota engineers ran into trouble making TNGA car lighter. Promised 20% weight reduction turn out to be a modest weight gain. BUT the power train group designed HSD for target weight numbers. Add 20% more weight, and what will happen with your target MPG numbers? anyone guess?

Does this mean we will get cheaper Prius? they will lower prices and eat into Prius C/Corolla sales?

is anything 'worth it'? good flame, but we don't know any of your 'facts' yet. when we do have the 'facts', it will be worth it to some, and not to others, like any car.

this thread is just going to be a continuation of all the other gen IV threads until we have more info, isn't it.

Have to agree with bisco, the "facts" are all speculation. Wait another month, -then- decide. ;)

Larger, roomier, more efficient, fun to drive.

Enough to be better than 3Gen, as expected when evolution takes place.

I like the idea the batt under the rear seat so you get a full trunk. From the post yesterday, Toyota is apparently trying to make the hybrid cheaper to mass produce, which is probably necessary if we expect to see hybrids become the new VW bugs of the road (OK give VW a nod they need it) we need to make the cost lower.

Otherwise I am looking at Tony Shaeffers post "what we know about Gen4" is naked I can't believe all the posts and we don't know nothing' honey.

    3) MPG improvements aren't marginal, unless EPA estimates have been released.

Although I agree with you, I think many have a hard time believing the "staff manual" is actual data. Personally, I didnt question the authenticity, since Ken has been a great resource in the past and he seems to have real information.

I guess it was the whole thing about Toyota saying the new Prius was going to be sportier and fun(ner) to drive. And those teaser comments made from dealers/internal staff when they initially saw the Gen4. And being a "car guy", its hard to reconcile any of those concepts with the decrease in ICE power and battery power.. and potentially and increase in weight. Yes, it will get better gas mileage. I expected that (as I'm sure the whole entire world did). I just expected more than that, hence my disappointment.

Oh heck, I'll weigh in: the sticking point for me would be just rolling out of our garage. Just can't see it, rolling down the street, saying hey, this is me, check out my silly tail lights.

    Gen4, is it worth it?

    Asked and answered. :D

You forgot the Fisher-Price interior....although like the exterior that's going to be subjective as well.

I haven't seen pricing info either, and I'm waiting until all of the data are out and I can touch a for-real G4 before I render final judgement.

If the MSRP drops by 30-percent that might change things up a little.

Yes MSRP reduction could be a game changer.

From ergonomics point of view changes similar to "C" the front lowering, moving battery under the seat would make better interior. Ergonomically speaking.

The double wishbone rear is mostly gimmick, Gen3 issues were with front tune. But if they also fixed front, and gave Prius 60% rigidity bump, car should handle better. But power reduction while maintaining all weight?

From MPG point of view even optimistic 10% increase will not do much, it wouldn't be a sufficient reason to trade Gen3 for as little. Especially with gas being as low.

That's my gut reaction. Seems akin to the switch to rear discs on 3rd gen.

If you think there is nothing in rear to cause understeer, except maybe too much grip. So how putting better gripping rear suspension will fix lack of grip in the front?Denial?I believe into what Ken had pulled out of japanese staff manual. It seems to be too elaborated for hoax and as hoaxes go goes in so many ways against japanese culture.

I think the label you're looking for is jumping to conclusions. 1 and 2 are not facts when there is no production car. Specs don't necessarily mean it's rubbish. PiP is heavier than a Gen 3 and 2 and gets better fuel economy.

3 and 4 as written can never be facts. 10% is marginal to you but not to another. Looks are subjective.
