Just wondering if I could round up some costs. Can you specify whether you use a wall outlet or charger, which model charger or what voltage outlet and how often you keep up car charged and how much does it cost on your monthly electric bill?

Frankly my PIP makes no noticeable dent in my power bill. I know it costs something but one to two charges a day is just small change. I just got my energy bill and am scratching my head--coldest winter in 6 years and my power bill are the lowest in memory. So I'm not seeing any impact since Ive got my Pip in November.

Each full recharge consumes about 3 kWh of electricity. Plugging in every night at rate of 0.12 per kWh brings it to a total of $132 for the entire year. That's so low, you'll barely notice it. Divide that by 12, it's only $11 per month.

I have had my car almost a year and have been looking at the electric bill every month and see no impact. I charge the car once a day and probably twice a day on weekends. But I have notice a signficant decrease in my gasoline bill. (^.^)

Using my worst case price of .071 per kWh I am charging once per day during the week, and 2-3X/day on the weekends. That equals $.781 per week, and $3.124/month.

Our electricity costs about 22 cents per kWh here. Full charge costs about 66 cents.
I charge once per day weekdays, and maybe 2x day on weekends. Funny thing is- my electric bill hasn't gone up either since I got the PIP in October.

PS- just got my $500 rebate check from our electric supplier for PHEV (y)

It would be nice to have 240, but with my driving habits I can not justify the cost.

Whatever it's costing me, half of my commute is paid for by where I work. :D

You guys are lucky. My employer is in a 15 story office building. Parking is $12 per day or $50 per month for the unlimited parking of which my employer pays. The parking structure is huge part underground part above ground. . One would think they would provide free charging stations, perhaps solar powered on the top floor. No such luck.

$0.29 per kwh on tier 3 for me. So my 1 full charge is about $1 a day. Or in gasoline terms $5 per gallon equivalent. Yup, it currently costs me more for electricity than gas. Before winter, i was only partially in tier 3 so that a full charge was $0.60 - $0.70.

I'm going to see about changing to time of use (TOU) plans and take advantage of off peak rates. I doubt it will help me because i'll still be on tier 3 and off peak rates for tier 3 is some $0.20. But peak rates will be much higher at $0.50. So it becomes a wash on my monthly bill.

I'm really hoping PG&E gets approved for the new EV plans that are TOU and has no tiers.

what i've seen work over a period of time is to hook up with some environazi's. you know the type, recycling bins, washable coffee cups, energy saving lighting. pretty soon, they'll have electric charging stations in the garage for you!(y)

Is there a thread that breaks down how to determine when the PIP makes sense financially versus a regular Prius?

    I'm intrigued!

it never makes sense financially. unless you're one of the lucky ones who got theirs for $26,000. or so. but there are a million other reasons. go for it!:)

Only if you make a bunch of short trips during the day and can recharge several times per day at home or at work for free (or 10-30 cents per actual KWh). So for most people, the regular Prius is always the more economical choice. But, the PiP is a nicer car than the Prius regular.
