With ALL the Prius cars sold (not sure how many) and ALL the new prius cars to be sold... How much in WORLD gallons has the prius car saved... Im sure there are people much smarter that me that will be able to figure this out...
BTW - not sure how many cars were made each year.
    For example:

Year 2000 500,000 cars made /est 10,000 miles per year per car. Estimating 20 mpg vs 50 mpg. Each 20 mpg car would have burned 500 gal. vs the prius at 50 would burn 200 gal. so a saving of 300 gallons. 500,000 cars x 300 gal = 150,000,000 gallons.

    is that correct?

so 8 years of prius cars 150M x 8 = 1.2 B gallons per yr at this point. wow!

AND how many gallons of crude are needed to make 1.2 B gallons of gas?

The point is to USE less gas in the first place.

The "saving" perspective is really greenwashing spin to make the guzzlers appear better based on their percentage of improvement.

That's why the rest of the world uses QUANTITY/DISTANCE measurement instead of MPG. Heck, even the EPA now lists Gallons/100 miles to aid with the understanding of the difference.
