I agree. The dealers don't seem to know how to fix anything on these cars. I am in a large city with a big dealership, and even then I had to take my car in repeatedly until I found this forum. Thank you all for saving me a ton of time and trips to the dealership!

Now, how do we get the Toyota place to stop saying we need to do it every 5,000 miles anyway and bugging us with mailers and emails? :)

This thread explains why my speedometer was set on kilometers when I left the dealership today after my first oil change. I was driving 70 on the turnpike and felt like I was barely moving. Fortunately I diagnosed the problem before some Suburban made me into a wet spot on the pavement.

Hey. Thanks for the great info. My car was set for the oil change at 5K, but by the time I took it in for service they had changed the interval to 10K so they just rotated the tires and of course didn't bother to reset the reminder. At 5K miles it popped on and I've been hitting the display button every time I start the car to clear the message. I happened to see your post and now it's reset!!! Thanks again.

    Cheers for now - Bill

I just took our 2011 in for the first 5K check and they told me that the oil didn't need to be changed until 10K. I told them I would rather change oil more frequently as it is cheap compared to an engine. The service writer indicated that Toyota would not change the oil until it has 10K. I said okay. Then when the car was brought back out and I was given the receipt it indicated that the oil and filter had been changed. The service writer looked flustered but recovering, said they did it upon my request. Then as we left the dealership we my wife read off the checklist where along with everything else they even checked the fan belts??? The Prius doesn't have fan belts, or any belts under the hood for that matter. This is why I prefer to do all of my own maintenance. If it weren't for the free services for the first 25K... I don't know if it is worth it. Love our car, loved the last 10 Toyotas also.

I'm with you on the self maintenance. I'm surprised they didn't also change the headlight fluid while they were there. ;)

I just had to do this. Worked great. Thanks.

My story is that I previously called the dealer where I purchased the car (Power Toyota of Irvine) to see if they would tell me how to get rid of the message on the screen. I was told that somebody from the service department would call me. That was on Sunday. Monday was a holiday, so I'll cut them some slack for that day. But it's now Wednesday, and no call back. I previously had a connection to this dealer and was getting great service, but he left. Now, it looks like I'm getting some crappy service.

    Mike
