Rodney King is rolling over in his grave.

The Hyundai Excel was his favorite car.

    Can't we all get along?

Bank of America was actually NOT at fault.

They acquired Contrywide Mortgage, with all of its responsibilities.

It was Countrywide that did the "dastardly deeds."

That the profits were greater than any fines.

Just another company that I will add to my boycott list:
    - Hyundai
    - Microsoft (except I need the OS)
    - Apple for hiring Foxconn sweatshops to build their stuff
    - Toyota for voiding warranties on sludged engines (poor customers got screwed)
    - Volkswagen for voiding warranties on exploding fuel pumps (ditto)

re: hyundai, the lucky ones had their cars fixed before they died.

re: boa/c-side, goldman sachs was well compensated, the fed took over the debt and the stockholders got the shaft.

The other issue here is that the regulatory agencies that decide on these fines do not operate under due process of justice like a court. The entire system reeks

No GM? - for hiding defects in ignition switches that lead to several deaths/injuries?
(I'd throw HP in there for buying the compaq PC company ... but that's just me - I got over it.)

Yes GM too. I made an exception to buy a used Prius, and I will make an exception to buy a GM Volt, but I will not buy any of their other products.
The money goes into the U.S. treasury which reduces everyone's taxes by a miniscule amount (not immediately but longterm). The people who died or were injured still have the right to pursue monetary compensation in the court system.

The government IMO could not sue in court -- it does not have standing.

Sounds like you make an exception when a car you want is offered.

Clearly you are a man of principle, TH

Prius is a Toyota, last time I checked (n) so why is Prius okay and not a Yaris? Would you buy a Scion or Lexus?

Volt is a GM, last time I checked (n) so why is a Volt okay and not a Spark? Would you buy a Buick or GMC?
