I went a nearby Toyota dealership to update map data and Entune software.
They just updated Gracenote database. No version change in Entune software.
They suggested to wait for new map released in September.
They said I have to pay ~$169 for the map update event though I purchased my PIPA within 1 year.
    Is that right?

Is my Entune / Map up-to-date?
If not, what is current? Can I update it myself?
    Please let me know.

    Thanks,
    Yong

I wouldn't be surprised. Prius sales have been brisk this year, and they may feel more entitled to charge us higher prices for things like map updates than before.

Yes, you have to pay for the map update (software updates are free). The map data on the Advanced lives on a hard drive and needs to be updated by the dealer using a special flash drive with authentication keys that apparently only they can get. On the Base, it is DVD based.

If it is anything like the competitor setup, there's is behind the the nav screen.

Hmm. I thought the base was also HDD based. You can update the HDD version yourself, but I find it's cheaper through the dealer.

Latest map update should be 2013. You may want to consider waiting for the '14 update to come out as suggested, around September, October, or November.

Display Audio with Entune on the base model PiP does not use DVD maps/software. It's updated the same way as the Advanced, I'm sure with a different part number flash drive however. I have a feeling that the nav unit is flash-based...

Having TIS because I thought I broke our v trying to add DRLs, I peeked around. Seems like certain '14 models are not HDD based. Prior to that they seem to be HDD based. I stand corrected.

New Entune map updates are often released in the fall (September), they are updated via a usb flash drive. The map update is $169 and needs to be preformed by the dealer because of the pincode lock that is used. A forum member mentioned their dealer charged an additional $64 labor.

Close. The $169 spent will get you an "activation card" with a code on it. The USB is approximately $90. TIS access is required to give the "pincode lock" that you mention. The "activation code", along with information acquired from the navigation display, is input into TIS for that "pincode" which is input to start installation.

And then wait around two hours while the equivalent of a DVD is pushed over a slow USB connection into the navigation system. (Think filling a swimming pool with a garden hose.)
