Leafer doing Mexico to Canada via Electric Highway June 12-20, 2012

I haven't been following the thread closely, but a Leafer is planning a (crazy, IMHO) trip in his Leaf from BC to BC. See My Nissan Leaf Forum • View topic - Mexico to Canada via Electric Highway June 12-20, 2012. He just started today.

I think he's going to run into charging issues, down charging stations (he's hit it a bunch of times before w/public Blink chargers and the one he has at home) and end up being behind schedule. Things should get better once he enters Oregon since there are a bunch of (CHAdeMO) DC quick chargers (aka "L3") there.

Anyhow, I wish him luck and a safe journey...

What's pretty cool is that you can track him at SPOT Shared Page.

Anybody watching? Right now, he's in near Aptos. I'm amazed.

He's going to be at EAASV Monthly Meeting tomorrow morning. I might actually wake up early to attend.

I ended up not going to the meeting, but he was definitely there from the pictures and videos I've seen on the SF BayLEAFs FB page. Here's an article on his journey: Tijuana to British Columbia in a Nissan Leaf in 8 days.

He made it to Oregon about 2.5 hours ago. Thanks to the CHAdeMO DC quick chargers (no level 2 J1772 is NOT "quick" charging), he can do WAY more miles/day.

He did it! From his tracker, he made it to Canada earlier tonight and has crossed back into the US.

Months ago, Tony came up (as he occasionally does ... prior to, and subsequent to this event) one of the O.C. events. Oh! In fact, I almost forgot ... he stopped by our place to charge. So we went to the event in OUR Leaf. But ... I digress. Day one of the BC to BC event, I took off work early to meet up with Tony at the Laguna Beach Charge/Parking lot ... to hopefully save a charge stall & to give a hearty "well-wish". My significant memory of meeting up that morning was his (approximately) 11yr old daughter, who did the trip with Tony. She thought all the decals & stickers on the Leaf were way too crazy/over-the-top.
