Here is a 7.9" Acer tablet installed in my Prius with the Alpine Perfect Fit dash kit. Very happy with the outcome. First went with a Nexus 7 but it didn't fill the opening of the Alpine kit so I found the Acer 7.9" tablet that had built in GPS which is working out great.

Good to see this in action man. Saw the WIP a couple weeks ago and was stoked for you. What was the particular model of the Acer tablet you ended up using?

I've been heavily contemplating doing something similar but never found the inspiration... can you tell me the exact(or at least really really close) size of the opening in the alpine dash kit? And do you have pics of the install/back of the unit you put in? Someone posted about a WIP but I couldn't find anything in my initial search for it. Thanks-

    Fantastic.
    Who needs a Tesla ?

Do you still have a functional back-up camera ?
What functionality did you give up ?
How does the tablet operate w/o access to the home and power buttons ?

Theoretically, would it be cheaper if u 3d print the dashboard if u know how to make the design? Your dashboard costs several hundred dollars. I want to get one but don't have several hundred dollars to spend.

    Nexus 7 ?

I paid $200.00 for this setup.

    ACER Iconia a1-810 tablet $100.00
Alpine perfect fit dash kit $55.00
    64gb micro sd card $35.00
Way less than any in dash navigation head unit.

Where did you pick up the dash kit? I can only seem to find them for $200.

Love the installation. But you gave up FM/AM & Backup Camera, right?

Crutchfield sells two version. 1 that's goes for $200.00 (includes all wiring harnesses for Alpine unit and the one I got which only comes with the dash kit I got an open box one for a little less. I never had backup camera so never lost that. I'm still able to use my am/fm from the stock head unit. But have to control in with the steering wheel controls.
    Stock radio still there.

No. Printing this part via any of the existing 3D printing technologies would cost more than the $55 the OP spent...unless you have a buddy that works at a place with a printer.

And have you seen any 3D printed parts? An FDM part this size would look really bad and would require lots of bondo and hand finishing to get to a point of painting and looking even half-way acceptable. SLA or Polyjet parts could be cleaned up more easily but they never fully cure and will move and sag over time (even kept inside at room temperature). I can't imagine they would last more than a day in a car in the summer even in a moderate climate.

install took about 24hr. 23 hrs was waiting for epoxy to cure. Other than mounting the tablet to kit, install is very easy. Removing faceplate off stock radio 5min. Running aux and power cable into armrest console 5min. I did have to modify the dash kit a bout for the tablet to sit flush.
