But he does have some clear stations, I do not. And it's not as much as static as it just sounds like it's over-amplified (breaking down).

People who want Garmin software can purchase a Kenwood unit. People who want Tom Tom can purchase a SONY.

Many (most?) of the navigation software isn't available for sale to the end user. Some people don't want to, or can't, acquire pirated software.

Many of the Chinese HUs come with pirated software which can't be (legally) updated with new maps.

I agree some people want the freedom to use the hacked map of their choice. Other people want a unit that comes with software that works and can be easily (and legally) updated.

The main reason I went with the Ottonavi was the factory look. I have a Kenwood DNX unit in my other car and it's good, I do like the Garmin, but the Ottonavi Nav works just as well. Plus it really looks like the unit belongs in the Prius. The installations I've seen with the Sony or Kenwood units look terrible to me! Either you get the Toyota trim kit and use those ugly bars on each side, or you use an aftermarket trim kit that doesn't match the Prius dash. Sorry, I just want my car to still look good. In my other car, the Kenwood unit looks just like the stock Nav since Chevy doesn't have the buttons lining the unit like Toyota does. There it looks OK, but it still doesn't look as good as the Toyota stock unit or the Ottonavi unit.

After much delay, here is my ILLUSTRATED BACKUP CAMERA INSTALLATION!!!!

Most instructions are noted on the photos, but a lot of prep work (removing panels) is not covered. This illustrated guide is to be used in tandem with these two PDFs, which show how to remove most panels.
    PDF 1:
    http://www.trdsparks.com/install/00016-00085instPrius.pdf

    PDF 2:
    Toyota Publications
(Scroll down about 9/10 of the way, and click on the "Rear View Camera" option.)

If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know and I will try to clarify this daunting process for you!

Note: There are two main ways to install the camera. I call them "Option A" and "Option B."
*I went with option A, due to the parts that came with my camera.*
Almost everything is identical, with the exception of the power wiring for the camera. I tried to explain this as best as I could in the photos. Please look at my "elementary-school-style" drawing of the two options in the first attached photo, and ask me any questions that you have.

Be sure to ignore photos that do not correspond to your "Option!"
(Denoted as such in the upper left corner of the photo.)
For the most part, if the photo doesn't say "Option A" or "Option B", it should be done no matter what.

I also want to give a special thanks to the following users, in no particular order:

    -Paja
    -Danorob
    -unreal
    -johalareewi
    -rrolff

Without your sage advice, photos, and feedback, I would have NEVER been able to do this. Thank you so much! Several of the photos I edited were originally property of "Paja" or "lovinglife." All rights belong to the respective owners.

Dylan, really a good compilation. May be, you can edit your camera17 picture to add a note about the blue plastic pin. which has to be removed from the metal body and placed back to plastic panel during the assembly procedure.

Hi All, I just purchased a 2010 Prius IV with same exact setup. A private dealer/Mod shop owner, installed this same HU before he sold it to me. I overall like the HU so far, but had to dig to find some information on it as the manual was awful (RoadRover – made in China). So I finally found this thread hoping to clear some issues I have with it. Can you give me some advice or insights?

    1) Ipod integration: Everything works fine except when I try to access Albums and Artists. It just keeps “loading”. I have 339 artists and 119 albums on my Iphone. Is this just a case where the unit can’t handle that amount of library of music? I’ve let it run for 10 minutes and it does not resolve. I can’t imagine this is the cause as it can detect my 1000+ Songs fine.

    2) I cannot rename my radio stations, it just keep defaulting to the standard rolling info for all of them. I can’t even rename it to frequency.3) Whenever I turn the HU on via the knob (after turning it off manually). I hear feedback from my JBL speakers. Is this normal? The dealer told me it’s normal because of the way the HU interacted with JBL amp. It’s not a big deal as I just leave the HU on all the time.

Besides, these above issues, it working great. I do have some questions.

    1) I don’t know what kind of software it’s using for GPS. But according to this thread, I believe you can change or upgrade to something you like (TomTom/IGO?). I want to change to a GPS software that actually states the street names. The current one does not. How can you tell what software you are using and how can I change this? I assume it’s through the micro SD card. This is possible, right?

    Thanks!

I responded to you in another thread, but I forgot to tell you to call Ottonavi and speak with either Kuo or Johnny. They have been very helpful. Also, my unit uses IGO for GPS.

I just bought this same HU, and have only one problem. The screen washes out during mid-day driving. I have the backlight setting set to 100 and still can't see the screen image.
Has anyone else had this problem and if you were able to fix it how?
The tech at Ottonuvi recommended a screen protector, but I don't see how this would increase visibility.
If I can't solve this issue by this Friday I'll be shipping this unit back for a refund. Any assistance anyone can provide me would be greatly appreciated.
I thoroughly like all the features, and operation of this unit. Just wish I could see it during the day.

The visibility in direct sun condition especially in CA is the problem for the LCD technology always. The only reliable solution is to use the screen based on AMOLED technology, but the price for the 6+" screen will be to high to match reasonable price.
Also the dashboard screen angle and placement is not optimal. Some cars have the screen dived in to dash to deal with the Sun. Try to use the simple paper sunshader as temporary solution (it is what is recommended by ottonavi I suppose).

Hi Unreal, A little off topic. With regards to the GPS of this Ottonavi, does it allow you to type/enter a new address while the car is moving? In most of the name brand in-dash GPS'es, you must stop before you can do it. However, they allow you to select saved POIs even while moving.
Portable GPS'es (my Garmin Nuvi) allows this while cruising.

BTW, I just installed a backup camera connected to a rearview mirror with embedded LCD screen as monitor. I'm planning to route the video to this Ottonav H.U. once I decided to get one.

    Thnx.

I believe this could resolve your dilemma, the 2010-2011 Toyota Prius Sun Visor Hood for Navigation Screen for $35. I couldn't provide a link due to forum rule.
