Does anyone know the approximate wait times for ordering a Prius v from factory? How many weeks for delivery?

You cannot order a Toyota made to your specs and the factory builds it. When you place an 'order' at a dealership the dealership looks at incoming inventory or inventory going to/at other dealerships and can then tag one to be sent to their dealership/trade for it. So it's a matter of finding the one you want or waiting for it to be made and on a boat coming here where the dealer can find it.

Paradox has it right. We are waiting on our V that we choose on Dec. 20th. Our dealer looked at the incoming inventory, found the one we wanted, and redirected it to his dealership. We believe it was still on the boat at that time. It is due tomorrow. The dealer wasn't able to find one for trading. So the wait time will depend on how quickly a dealer can find a trade, one on the ground, on even one on a boat.

Generally speaking that is true. Dealers CAN preference new orders, and if you find one willing to do that, you can order what you want. My salesman preferenced a car (2012, four, blizzard pearl) for me a few weeks ago and called Friday to tell me it is "on the boat." We will see if it comes in "as ordered."

Japanese production orders can take up to 5-6 months. Domestic production orders 4 months. Toyota production schedule and system is not designed for factory orders from the consumer. Because of this Toyota dealers and each region strongly discourages the public from trying a factory order, instead they try to match a preproduction order or an inbound vehicle as close as possible to the customer's preference. This is called a preference order and most dealers are more than willing to do this. This normally takes 2-12 weeks. It may not alwaus provide the customer exactly what they want but usually close enough to satisfy their requirements.

Of course if luck has it that an inbound or preproduction vehicle matches the customer's needs, the time maybe considerably shorter.

Most dealers and Toyota regional would rather not place a factory order. But it can be done if you find the right dealer, are willing to wait, and leave a hefty deposit.

    Paradox, that is not right.
You can order ANYTHING Toyota makes as long as the build combinations permit.

In regards to the wagon, I have no idea what would have to be ordered because the wagon builds are so simple, ie a II is a II, a III is a III ie it's a II with the NAV.
Even a V is either gonna have AT or it's not.

BUT: if you want something Toyota builds and don't mind a wait, I can build order cars from Japan with about a 4 month wait time at worst.

    Really!

There's a lot below wrong with your statements.
The preference part is almost right, but the rest is totally incorrect.

INcidentally, I personally and professionally do not and never will discourage anyone from any form of special order. It's YOUR money - not mine. Get what you want, not just what Toyota decides to ship in your direction!

Anyway, what you have below is extremely myopic and not accurate. Not my style. Not in my DNA as they say.

That goes against EVERYTHING we know about ordering with Toyota Dianne. You're saying you can order a vehicle with the exact trim, packages, options etc you want and the factory in Japan will build it for you with your name attached to the order/vehicle being built (Plug-in Prius excluded)?

I am saying you can order what you want.
As long as Toyota builds it, yes.
Your name isn't attached to your order though - it's assigned to your dealership and you would really need to be working with someone who is adept in communication with the factory and their allocation system to recognize when your car's assigned.

That to me is an order. A build order.
It's far easier to do on domestic production cars and trucks. That's fast, sometimes as fast as 3-4 weeks if you catch it right!

Ok, we're on the same page it seems but with different definitions. I consider an order picking what you want (as long as they build it in that configuration) and then the factory builds it for you and you specifically. Ahh, if only all dealerships had sales woman like you Dianne! :)

YOU are making my head hurt.
That is how it works with Toyota.

Well, maybe that's how it works if people are fortunate enough to choose YOU as their saleswoman and Carson Toyota Dianne, but at most dealerships that level of service simply won't happen lol.

Despite the debate going on about this...
Very interesting... When I got my 06 in January 06, when there were 1+ month long waiting lists and no inventory anywhere, I placed an "order" (so to speak) with my dealer, Toyota Sunnyvale, months before. Essentially, he asked for the package(s) I wanted (NL, in my case) and color choices, ranked in order by preference. IIRC, the dealer had already ordered a whole bunch w/various colors and packages.

Basically, if a car was coming in by boat that matched my package and a color choice, he'd call me. Well, that's what he did. He called me in early January saying "hey, we've got a white NL coming in. It's on a boat near Hawaii right now. You've got 24 hours to decide, do you want it?"

It was my 3rd color choice. If I passed, then that white NL would go to another guy on his list that wanted a white NL and I'd wait for whatever came next that matched... I ended up taking it.

Njrose, why do you wish to "order"? How long do you want to wait?

    Dianne,

I am in GST and have factory ordered several cars for my clients over the past few years. It is a pain in the neck, but it can be done. I have factory ordered a 6966 from for a client and it took 6 full months to get it. I ordered 6 Tundras for a commercial client in a configuration not normally carried by GST and it took four months to recieve it from San Antonio.

Agreed the car is ordered and assigned to the dealership, not to the individual. Maybe I could have been clearer in that statement.

The dealers in my area don't have the exact model and color I prefer so I was thinking that a factory order could be a good option since I've heard of other manufacturers building cars to order within 4-6 weeks to delivery. Based on the responses, this does not seem likely with Toyota. I definitely don't want to wait several months. Hopefully, I can find what I'm looking for through a preference order. I'll definitely look into this.

Hoping my order doesn't take much longer than the 4 to 6 weeks my dealer here in UT told me. They emailed me today and said it will not be on this allocation and would get back to me on Jan 17th to see if has any better news. All I'm looking for is a Prius V 5 with tech, black ext and dark grey int. Sure enjoy this Priuschat in the mean time. Question, does anyone know how these allocations work for dealers?

Just an update on my order of Dec 23rd, 2011. No car yet and not even in their allocation. One saleman told me it could take up to 12 weeks to get a special order.

Hello all the good people here at PC! :tea:

I know my Barcelona metallic red Prius V w/Canadian touring and technology package is sailing the Pacific and making its way to Vancouver. :fish2:

Got what I think is a good deal with a fair discount on the list price, tinted windows and some other bits and pieces thrown in for good measure.

Expecting to take delivery some time on or after February 20th. Being my first Toyota, I am looking forward to losing my virginity with a stunning looker.
