Someone needs to hurry up. LOL! I don't plan on keeping my factory NAV in the car but just a couple to few more months and would at least like to have the latest updates in the meantime, especially for the bluetooth change in lag time.

Does anyone know what navigation system version is running in the 2009 (GEN II) Prius?

I seem to recall reading that it was Gen5, but a search here or at Google may be better than my (failing) memory....

If you post in the Gen II area, you are likely to find alot of people who know the answer to that question.

I agree that $200 is a steep price for a NAV DVD. Mercedes wanted over $250 for theirs. I posted this info just to show PC the latest info from the disk (which the info is still 7 months old by now) that came with my new car. I found a new Mercedes disk on eBay for $60 once. I do not know why these disks are so expensive considering a blank DVD costs about 10 cents, other than all parties involved want a piece of the profits and the end users pay for it. I do not plan to get any updates or subscribe to XM either. I payed $ for Sirius thinking I would get commercial free music. Instead I got a extra bill for royalty fees for the artists, and just as much yacking as commercial radio. Like another post said, if you call them, they will not work on the price. If you hold out they will come to you. As far as making and posting copies of copyrighted map data, I do not think that is what the PC community is about, and the cost of a new disk does not justify it either.

I do wonder why the price is so high too. Why is it that a nav DVD is so much money when Garmin and others can sell an entire North American PND for far less than $200? (Example is a Nuvi 1200 for $80 at http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-n%C3%BCvi-3-5-Inch-Portable-Navigator/dp/B001U0O7QW/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1303100434&sr=1-1.)

Surely, the cost of goods and services for a PND including paying for the map data is MUCH higher than a DVD.

On Garmin's site, I see one time City Navigator North America updates for $80 for my Nuvi 1200. (I use this in my Z which has no nav) I see lifetime updates for $89 at https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=33379 and $79 at http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-n%C3%BCMaps-Lifetime-America-Updates/dp/B001PKTFM8.

As to calling them, for those who are upset about the update prices, it might do a little bit of good to call Toyota to voice your dissatisfaction on the price. At least it'll be logged and in their database. Perhaps someone will take action based upon actual metrics instead of anecdotal reports here and via word of mouth. I think if the update price were dropped to say $50 or less, for a one time update, people would be a lot less upset.

Maybe Toyota and/or Denso need to negotiate better deals w/Tele Atlas and/or Navteq?

Hey guys - any further discussions about NAV DVD ISO Torrents (especially links) or other "backup strategies" will not be permitted.

Making backups for personal purposes is fine, but it seems that the thread went to the next level.
