I was stopped in a parking garage yesterday when a car made a left turn very (very!) close to my front bumper. My car beeped (I think), the "icy road" icon on my dash lit up and my car would no longer creep forward as it had been doing. (It did start creeping forward again, but only after I applied the gas pedal and the icy road icon went off.) A little later, the same thing happened when I let another car turn left in front of me, again pretty close to my front bumper, while I was stuck in traffic on the street.

Is this normal? What is the purpose?

    I have a v5, non ATP, BTW.

Sounds like you engaged the Hill Start Assist feature by depressing the brake pedal too far. Read all about it your owner's manual.

It's possible. I was pretty tense when the first gal squeezed through with 0.1 inches to spare. The second guy barely slowed down when he squeeked by on the street. I might well have pushed on the brake (quite) a bit harder than usual at those times. I'll go out and give it a try in the garage.

Yeah, I'm thinking HSA as well since you don't have the ATP.

You guys were right. It doesn't take much extra pedal pressure to engage Hill Start Assist. Pretty cool feature I didn't know about before. Thanks!

I think what Paradox meant is that it's not the PCS that activated.

Yep, Tideland is right, that is exactly what it meant, I know ATP has HSA...
