Today the ability to start the car with the FOB in my hand and not in dashboard failed. It failed for both FOBs, but I changed the battery anyway. Still fails. Works fine with FOB in the dash board.

Proximity opening and closing is failing also.. The open and close buttons on the FOBs works. It's like the antenna for the proximity has failed (if there is such a thing).

    Thoughts or suggestions?

Did you bump the smart key system disable button/switch under the steering column? Be careful, if you have TPMS, there's also another button to reset TPMS. IIRC, SKS disable button is on the left.
