Hi, guys! Been haunting these threads for awhile and just signed up- thanks for all the helpful info. I test drove a C yesterday and am in love. I keep trying to find a cheaper car that I like better and nothing compares to the look and mileage. I have never bought a new car before so I'm a tad bit hesitant as I plan on keeping whatever car I buy for a looooooong time. I think the 2 should serve my needs- I don't need the fancy dash or keyless entry. Should I get the VIP security package? I'm not sure if the standard 2 comes with security already or not beyond the engine immobilizer. Also, I plan on having kids sometime in the next few years- is this car practical at all for babies? Lastly, what shot do you think I have at getting a 2 in CA for 21k including tax?

I might be wrong but none of the Prius C models come with a security system. You have to buy it extra (it does come with keyless entry). As far as the kids, I would assume its good as there is plenty of room, but you will still be able to reach them in the back seat from the front. As far as price, I would say no. Dealers are not budging much on the prices as these are flying off the lots. Honestly, a $1000 on a 5 or 6 year loan is only about $18-22/mo more. So if you really love the car, I'd just get it. The gas savings will be amazing anyways, as well as insurance is low.

Thanks for the reply. Good to know about the insurance.

We are just in the market for a C as well as we commute a lot for work. Together we spend about $500 a month on fuel! We figure this car will pay for itself in fuel savings within 5 years or so.

Have you test driven a C yet? Sounds like you probably have. When we test drive a C it was the C2. It road surprisingly very well, quiet inside, comfortable seats, and didn't feel small once your inside it. The outside looks small, but doesn't feel that way in the front seats. We ordered a C3 in Moonglow as we felt having the nav and music all at one control would be safer. The C2 is really all anyone "needs". Sounds like your price is a good one. Anything $500 or more under MSRP I would consider a fair price. We got our C3 for $21,873.

What color do you have your eyes on? As far as children, we have a newborn on the way in August and felt there is plenty of roomin the backseat. Also, the car is not too low or highs it makes it easy getting your baby or kids in and out. We also have a Malamute (100lb dog)and plan to fold the seat down so there is some room for him. He won't like it as he is used to a dual cab truck, but we will like the MPG!

Let us know what you decide and feel free to ask any questions here. It is a great resource!

I also think it will be fine for kiddos. I have an 8 year old and plan on having another one in less than a year. It seems fine for car seats and has great safety features!

I got a C2 Moonglow in Hayward Toyota for a little over $21K after taxes and fees. (no additionals). However I did have a trade-in which I did not get the KBB price but it was giving me too many problems so I didn't mind.

I am looking into an aftermarket alarm since I tested to see if the car's horn (like the panic button) will go off when I open the door after locking but it doesn't. I think at least this car should get some sort of audible alarm.

As for the baby with baby seat I have no idea since I don't have kids but I sat in the back for a 10mile ride and I felt comfortable (I'm 6ft). I guess somebody will have to post a picture for a baby seat.

^This reminds me of the dog page in the prius c brochure that dealers hand out:

The neighbor asked you to help bring "Tulip" home for the shelter. Tulip's a bullmastiff.
Good thing Prius c has available 60/40 split fold-down rear seats and 17.1 cu. ft. of cargo area, so Tulip can plant himself in back with complete comfort. Though its a compact car, you'll be impressed by how our engineers were able to offer so much practicality and so many creature comforts within Prius c. So don't be surprised if Tulip makes himself at home -- long before he actually gets home. :pound:

I drove my wife crazy by saying "Tulip is a bullmastiff" about 10 times a day before she knew what the hell I was talking about.

Thanks for all the info, guys. I really love the Summer Rain Metallic and will probably hold out for one of those. It would be great to get a 3 but I've read bad reviews of entune and heard that the push start button can be hacked. Any recommendations on after market security packages? Also, what does the steering wheel of the 2 look like? No controls for the sound/climate, right? I might miss those.

Etunes isn't as refined as it could be, from what I gather, but it's not a reason to buy or not buy the 3. Never heard of the car being hacked because of the push button, if anything the system makes the Prii much harder to steal! Honestly, if you're going to be keeping the C for a long time and it's not a hardship to spend a little more now, get the 3, just the sks alone is worth the price! Touch a handle and the car unlocks instead of fumbling for keys!

Some criminals have figured out how to steal push button cars using the frequency but who would steal a Prius? Come on lol

Unfortunately, there are a lot of high value parts that can be stripped off of a Prius, but I've never read of thieves who are able to clone a key to one.

The Two does indeed have steering wheel controls for sound and climate.

One more question: are there any available California tax incentives?

I have a C2 and have only had it for about a month but I think all the steering wheels are the same. I have stereo volume, display, trip odometer, bluetooth phone and something else on my steering wheel whose function right now escapes me. Sorry. It may be climate controls or maybe stereo funtion, but I haven't really used it.
I see from the other posts that it is climate...
