I'll be test driving the Toyota/Tesla Rav4EV on Friday. Just soliciting any specific details, questions or photos anyone would like to see or have answered. Can't say much more about this at this time, and there may be questions i can't answer under NDA, but happy to do my best.

Actually, I would love to know if they are planning a Rav 4 Hybrid/PHEV. We have a gas Highlander which probably has a good 3 or 4 years left. I would love to get a Rav 4 Hybrid/PHEV to replace it. It just seems like a logical step for Toyota ... something in between a Highlander Hybrid and a Prius v.

Will this be considered part of the Prius Lineup?

Evan I have two questions. 1) Where will this vehicle be available for purchase? 2) Can I get one in Hawaii?

    Aloha and Mahalo,

Toyota is actually only planning on making 1200 or so, they will only be available in California.
If you could afford a Rav4 EV, you may want to check out the Tesla Model X. Due out in 2013, base model is likely within 10% of the RAV4 EV cost.

Thanks for the links.. too bads its just compliance (2600 over next 3 years, only in CA)

Kinda odd that the greencar reports says
Is there any data suggesting that much loss for a tesla? Why are they projecting 50% capacity? Maybe the Leaf wilting is scaring them to under-promise (and hopefully over deliver)

Yeah...Thanks. Toyota Hawaii kind of does it's own thing. I just looked at the Model X it is not for me, I like the Rav4 maybe I will import one.

Evan what did you think how was it? Eagerly awaiting for your report.

Addition: There is no Tesla dealer in Hawaii I would have to import one of those also.

Listen to what drives us I think it was episode 110, a few of us who drove it that day talk about the drives we took in the Rav4 EV and likes/dislikes.

I'm sooo excited about this car's arrival shortly. Cannot wait to start selling them. Danny and I created a preferred dealer program for this car with a discount for PC members. And, things are a little easier with just three color choices. I have a PDF file with all of the specs of anyone wants them. Just email me.

Also, anyone with the better knowledge of the boxes, please email me? I'm trying to research a different charging station ASAP - moving away from Leviton and using a different kind. I am SO pissed at Leviton right now.... words cannot describe. Our charging station's been down for THREE WEEKS now. God help buyers who have this Rav4 EV as their sole car and need their help with a broken Leviton box.
Their customer service does not rock (far from it) ... and their replacement boxes are all bad so far (THREE!!!).
And, just GETTING things done as far as troubleshooting has been a huge pain to begin with.
Ya hearing me, Leviton? You're in my crosshairs but you were warned.

There are a lot of choices, like the ones listed at Plug In America | We Drive Change.

Howver, if you want to charge quickly, you'd want to find one that could charge up to or close to the 10 kW capability the Rav4 EV supposedly has. You might not want one that only can pump out 6.6 kW.

I don't think there's anyway in God's green earth that Tesla will be releasing a Model X next year.

Sorry I didn't post this sooner. Here is a video I made after our visit out to Toyotaland for the RAV4-EV test drive. I drove it for almost an hour and then Evan took over. I kick myself now for not getting actual driving video.

Why not? Is there something you know that we don't? The X is supposed to have a minimum 60kwh pack so it will be much more expensive than the Rav4 EV, but it will also be available for those of us that don't live in california

He bought one and has dumped his 2nd Leaf, leaving (heh) him Leaf-less. Wow.

He mentions at My Nissan Leaf Forum • View topic - Official Toyota RAV4 EV Thread, he paid "full pop". He's posted a bunch of his comments further down in the thread. Another guy who rented one posted some pics, including some of the nav system/display.

He's busy selling his leftover Leaf stuff that's of no use on his Rav4 EV (e.g. wheels, tires, gid meter, spare tire, etc.)
