Remote starter

    Other than the car won't start the EVSE plugged in Is there any reason why you can't put a remote starter in these cars?

    I mean if I unplug the EVSE once it charged I should be able to use a remote starer right?

    I don't want to go thru the hassle of installing if it won't work..
    It'd primarily be used for pre warming and thawing ice and snow so I don't have to wait

    Remote starters probably don't contribute a huge amount of pollution, but they are a glaring symbol of the American 'I don't give a sh*t about the environment' attitude. You won't get a lot of support for one in a Prius forum. I'd actually use one if I had it, but only to warm the car up for 30-60 seconds in the Winter, as I left the house. Using one to completely clear windows isn't just dirty, it's also bad for the engine - although probably not so much for the Prius engine, ironically.

    Money can by comforting gadgets, if that rocks your boat, go for it and fulfill your need.
    Looking at another threads shows that having a OEM Remote Starter has many hardware issues.
    My wife has an aftermarket (Audiovox) Rem Starter and works great and with a very long range; it came equipped with her Certified 2011.

    Thanks. I have a Compustar Unit from the last car I had. excellent range, high quality brain.

    I suppose my question is more from a technical standpoint asking if it will work and not asking for opinions about if you feel its a good thing or not..

    My car stays outside (aka not garaged)
    I live in New England and winters can be harsh (I know there are worse areas than this but still winters here are far from even "warm").
    Sometimes It gets frosted (rainx washer fluid almost instantly eliminates that..)
    BUT sometimes the inside of the windshield will be fogged up as well.. (maybe snow on the mats creating condensation or whatever)
    An ice scraper will do NOTHING if the inside of the window is fogged up and and I will be damned if I drive away with a fogged up windshield for the sake of preventing idling.. SORRY that's just not safe. once its clear.. I go.
    If I can have that cleared up BEFORE I get in the car then MINT!

    I am not talking about melting inches of snow off with the heater and letting it run for 30 minutes..
    Just talking about a couple minutes to get the coolant warmed up a lil bit so we can get heat QUICKER than if we got in and drove away cold.

    ALSO At least a few times a week I have my 3 year old son with me in the morning and would like at least warm-ish car to put him in on these single digit temp days
    When its just me.. the heated seat and my attire keep me warm enough til I "run out" of EV capacity and even then, Heat is set low.

    One of the main reasons I bought this car is because of its fuel economy. At the end of the day.. I still want some creature comforts.. I can turn my head but still use the backup camera.. I own an ice scraper, yet i use the defrosters, I wear pants and long johns, but still use the seat warmers.. I have pretty good night vision but still use my headlights.. come on now!

    Today's conditions.. 3rd storm in a week..

    You are really comparing the need to use headlights to letting your car sit there and melt all the the snow/ice off itself?

    We live in Upstate NY and fog on the inside of the windshield is only an occasional problem for the primary driver of the PIP. She leaves the vents in floor/defrost mode, with recirculate open. If you aren't doing this, it might be worth a try to make sure it's configured that way beginning at least the last mile or two of your drive.

    Good way to dry up the floor for sure. But it also happens when theres ice or snow outisde. Like the pic I posted. I moved the car to that spot prior to snow. After it snowed the insides of the windows were fogged.
