Just like the title says...Start up, light flashes four or five times, then goes away....Anyone have this happen to them yet? Our car is 3 months old with approximately 4500 miles on it. Is this just a maintenence reminder because it is coming up on 5k miles, or is something not right here? Just got 46mpg hand calculated with the car loaded to the gills with stuff and a bike rack on the hitch so I would be surprised if anything was actually wrong.
My 05 just started doing that and I'm 80 miles away from 5000. I guess your right about it being a early reminder.
Yes, this is what a Toyota does. After the 5000 mile mark, the light will stay on. Now would be a good time to check your oil, if you have never done that.
Yes it is the early reminder. It will flash at startup when 4500 miles has been reached since the last reset. At 5000 mile the light will stay on until reset. Then the 5000 mile starts again.
Thanks so much for the info guys. SO does this mean that every freekin' 5k this light is going to go on? a bit annoying if you keep track of your maintainence
Check your oil, rotate your tires, and reset the reminder. Instructions in the manual, very easy, page 354.
It will only be annoying if you don't do your appropriate service at every 5k miles. It is a friendly reminder to people like my brother who will drive a car until something breaks before he decides he needs to do some work on it.
Maybe USA manual provide instructions how to reset the engine light but Canadian Manual does NOT contain any instruction as to how to change the oil or reset the engine light. Page 354 "Reset Maintenance Data (USA only)" Doesn't this procedure works on Canadian Models? If it does why would they put "USA only"
