Southern California Edison raise from .13 to .14 per Kilowatt!

    Hi All,

    Just saw this when I went online to SCE site this morning. Looks like my next bill will be .14 per kilowatt instead of .13 even though I am still in tier 1.

    Wondering if this affect my area only or the whole southern California.

    For those of you that are outside of California, how much do you pay?

    I believe our rates are around 35 cents per kilowatt. :eek:

    I still see a lot of Teslas though. :D

    WHAT !!!! 35 Cents?!?!?!

    My July bill will be .14 per kilowatt but starting August, it will be .15 per kilowatt... Must be me... I bought a car that use electricity... LOL

    Our's were 10 cents, then the plant had a fire that shut down 80% of its output, they raised it to 12 or something and expect it to go down to 10c again next year.

    Doesn't matter since I am running 10KW of solar. Meter spins backwards during the day.

    Mine is about ten cents per KWHr, and I use about a megawatthour a month. (1.47 kilowatt average consumption...)

    Con Edison in nyc is about 31-32 cents a kWh when you break down your bill, with no ev incentives being offered. It pays to just run gas around here. Shame.

    I'm on PG&E Time of Use E-6 rate and have a 2.8 kW AC solar panel installation so my cost is $0.105/kWh when charging before 10 AM in the Summer and almost all day in the Winter. That works out really well with my 58% EV operation. As Paradox says the low 30 cent region is the brake-even point for any EV savings over gas.

    Crazy. I was down to about 100 watts in our prior home. This new home is about double that, but hopefully not for long.

    I come up with different numbers.

    HV mode is about 7 cents a mile -- $3.50/50 mpg
    If EV is ~ 3.5 miles per kWh in pleasant weather, then the break-even is 7*3.5 = 24.5 cents a kWh.

    I am on a tiered Time-of-Use plan which varies from $0.04/kwh at tier 1 off-peak to $0.54/kwh at tier 3 peak, so I really don't know how much to say a charge costs. :confused:

    PSE&G (PEG) in NJ is ~17c/kwh--standard residential rate.

    Where can I get gas for $3.50/gallon?

    HV mode 4.00/50 mpg gives 8 cents/mile
    Full charge from the wall is about 3 kWh for 12.5 miles = 4.17 miles per kWh
    Then 8 * 4.17 = 33.3 cents a kWh in sunny and very dry California

    Imagine the calculation for Hawaii.

    About two years ago we were 7.0c/kwh. In March it was 9.3c/kwh. Today's bill was 11.6c/kwh. All base rate. Tax adds a penny or two /kwh. Last winter average of 2000 kwh per month for 5 months. Summer about 200 to 250 kwh. All electric house. First Energy/MonPower

    About $0.25/kWh here in suburban NYC ConEd territory. Costs me more to charge than use gas, but I prefer it anyway. And I make more than the car uses with my solar. But no smart metering, except for future promises.

    11 cents a kWh in Pahrump, Nv. About 60 miles west of Las Vegas where it is also 11 cents. Doesn't matter to me because I am running 9 kW solar system. If they keep raising it I will add another 9 kW plus batteries.

    National average for petrol in the US is about $3.50. <<shrug>>
    We should be clear what the calculation means: any electric rate *below* the calculated cost per kWh favors electricity.

    In my location I would expect any EV (PiP, Volt, Leaf, Tesla) could be operated for 2 to 3 cents per mile. Prius C, V, and HB models @50MPG and $3.75 per gallon for 7.5 cents per mile.

    Actual 09 Lexus 450h awd and 03 Chevy Cavalier @25 mpg and $3.75 per gallon for 15 cents per mile. Neither of these are driven for efficiency or by me. Lexus averages 20 miles per day and the Chevy around 3 gallons per month

    I live in the land of coal and frak gas yet my electricity has gone up 65% in just last few years. And where is this cheap natural gas I here about? Certainly not here as it's up 50%.
