Why does the jack that is supplied as an accessory not come with a wheel chock. It is quite dangerous to jack up the vehicle without wheel chocks under most conditions. so, why is it not included?

I have never owned a car that included a wheel chock that came with jack. That includes GM, Ford, Chrysler, Honda and Toyota. Have you?

If you need a wheel chock they are readily available.

Want one? Just go to your local Walmart and pick one up for $3.24 plus tax. That's whrer I got mine.

If Toyota supplied one, you can bet that it would increase the MSRP of the car by at least $15 or even more.

sure, this is not a complaint against toyota or prius. just that I think it should be included. the tools go hand in hand i think. it doesn't make sense to provide one and not the other.

bisco ... Ha! Ha! they might do that!

Anyway, I bring this topic up because I was unfortunate to have the car roll while jacked up (mind you, the car was on flat surface). Realized the importance of wheel chocks!

ofcourse now I am going to do that and invest in some good chocks but the point is for the millions of car owners out there, it is important to tell them not to use the jack without chocks and they should go out and buy a couple. Even the owner's manual does not mention the use of chocks.

If your car (Prius) is in park and you raise the rear you should not have any movement and likewise if the parking brake is set and you raise the front you should be fine there also. My 1993 GMC Sonoma pickup has wheel chocks in its tire changing kit.

I have the Race Ramp chocks, as well as the cheap yellow Walmart ones.

The Race Ramp chocks weigh nearly 5 pounds each, while the yellow plastic one weighs 5 ounces. I carry the yellow one in my car.

One car I owned came with one metal wheel chock - my 1991 BMW 318i. I kept the chock after the car died with 199 K miles, but lost it over the years. It was a great accessory for using the jack.

    all,

Our Nissans used to come with a collapsible metal one included in the lug wrench pouch (worked well). I should have held on to a couple of them [no Nissans for us since about 1990---4 Ford Escorts, 1 Dodge Caravan, 1 Mazda (all used) & then the 2005 Prius (new)].

I seem to recall in my prius v manual which i finished reading about a week ago that it does in fact reccomend using wheel chocks when jacking up the car to change a flat tire. Also shows a picture with those wheel chocks in place. Can't remember which page it was on, my manual is at home and i am at work.

Put the parking brake on good and hard and don't lift both rear wheels off the ground at the same time. Problem solved.

I realize that this is an ancient thread, but whilst I think that yours is an admirable idea, I really think you'd do better by hollering "…just use yer COMMON SENSE folks!" …and good luck with that too!!! ;)

My Toyota jack didn't come with a wheel. I'll forgive Toyota for not including a wheel chock if they give me a spare wheel. Not sure what an emergency jack is doing in my car without a spare tire. Why would I ever need it?
