I know some people here drive in the snow in the winter I searched for a outlined post and couldn't find any so here's the procedure on how to turn it off. And some want to turn it off for spirited drives LOL.

    Turn off VSC/ TCS:
Get in the car and close the doors with the keys on your person.
Put the Prius into ON mode,
-By Pressing the Start Button Twice (Foot off the brake)
    E Brake On.
Press Gas Pedal twice to the floor.
    Press the Brake Pedal
    Put the car in Neutral
Press Gas Pedal twice to the floor.
    Put it in Park

Press Gas Pedal twice to the floor.

    Tada....
VSC and TCS should be off . (My iphone camera didn't capture both VSC and TCS being off as its an LCD) so it caught it when it was "strobed off"

[If you want to memorize it in short hand: ON, E Brake, Gas, Gas, Brake, Neutral, Gas Gas, Park, Gas Gas]

    Happy New year everyone
    -Jay.

Reminder to newbies: Use with caution. When this system is off it is possible to damage or destroy the hybrid drive. If you have trouble accelerating in snow, buy snow tires and/or give yourself more time to accelerate.

However in certain countries this car comes with an off button... (You can buy the retrofit in Japan).

    Yes ! JJ ! You Da'man !!

Now I don't have to wait so long for these cheapass tires to wear out!

    Let the fun begin !

And PCchat shop, I'd buy a kit to install one more cool switch.

I would think the only extra wear and tear is in the spider gears of the differential.
Don't sit there and spin only one tire in any car. The hybrid system is not effected.
Just don't complain when you power your way into a ditch on wet roads.
It's all up to you now.

Is there a hack for ABS? Audi used to give you a switch to turn ABS off.

    Later,,,,
I'm out the door to have some fun with JJ's cheat sheet.
But only after a proper warm up, right?
Then it's: "Put the spurs to her, Chuck" !!!

Does VSC/TCS come back on when you turn the car off? Do you have to do the chicken dance every time you turn the car on? Or does it say off? If it stays off, how do you turn it back on? Do the chicken dance again?

    Thanks!!!

You need to do the chicken dance everytime the car is turned off and on...Sean..Mike (We0h) and I have been looking for the VSC off switch, no dice yet..I'm working if its just a simple matter of turning off the VSC ground on the ECU?

    JJ,

I didn't get this to play.

    Some questions about this procedure:

Put the Prius into ON mode,
-By Pressing the Start Button Twice (Foot off the brake)
E Brake On. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Start with E Brake off?
Press Gas Pedal twice to the floor.
    Press the Brake Pedal
Put the car in Neutral >>>>>>>>>>>> No 'N' indication but get a beep when held for 3 sec.
Press Gas Pedal twice to the floor.
Put it in Park >>>>>>>>>>>>>Car has been in Park the whole time. No response to pressing PARK.

Press Gas Pedal twice to the floor.
    >>>>>>>>>> Then what? Hold brake and press power for 'READY'?

    >>>>>>>Are two amber icons supposed to stay on indicating VSC and TCS are turned off?
    >>>>>>>Does the car need to be in a Maintenance Mode like in your pic?

I took it out for a test drive and still get only the smallest skid from the inside front tire when on a loose surface.
    Thanks for the help.

OK, this is the procedure that worked for me. I found it in another thread on same subject.
    It's a mode that's meant for testing on a 2 wheel dyno.
It's called 'Certification Mode'. You still have a normal idle speed and engine will stop as needed in PARK.
    {Previous procedure was for 'Maintenance Mode' which will cause 1000 rpm idle and no engine stop in Park.}

So, it's not an everyday mode. The manual has all sorts of warnings about using this mode, but it might be good to keep a note in glove box if you are ever stuck in a low-traction situation, or just desire tire spin under power.
I shall volunteer my car for this old school testing !!

Certification Mode:Perform the following steps from (1) through (4) in 60 seconds.
    (1) Turn the power switch 'ON' Mode >>>( Not 'READY' ), foot off brake pedal, 2 pokes of 'POWER' button
    (2) Fully depress the accelerator pedal
three times with park (P) selected.

(2a) Hold brake pedal while selecting neutral ( N) >>>>>>>>>My additions to this procedure.
    (3) Fully depress the accelerator pedal
three times with neutral (N) selected.
    (4) Fully depress the accelerator pedal
three times with park (P) selected.
    (5) Check that "
    CERTIFICATION MODE"
is displayed on the multi-information display.>No other displays.
    (6) Start the engine by turning the power switch on (READY) while depressing the brake pedal.

To disable modes, just turn the car off.

Yes, this disables Traction Control. I can now spin the front wheels with power on loose surfaces.
I can't tell if Stability Control is affected. What's a good test?
I only see the TCS amber icon, it's bright and annoying.
    ABS still works.
The main display will go back to normal mode for ~6 sec. when you press DISP on steering wheel.
    And no cruise control.:(
