My wife was making a hands-free call from the passenger seat, and the person being called could not hear her very well, but they could hear me fine speaking from the driver's seat. I guess it makes sense for hands-free to be biased toward the driver, but I'm wondering exactly where that mic is located. Thanks.

In the 2011, there appears to be a mic in the overhead console. See if the holes are there in your car.

Overhead console is correct, Its a four wire powered amplified microphone.
I installed a factory 2012 bluetooth display radio in my 2011 and the people I talk to using the bluetooth find the sound quality very good .

Yes. Just went out and looked and saw the three slots on the overhead light fixture that are obviously the mic. So folks in either front seat should be heard equally well. And possibly even in the back. Probably one of us was mumbling. So thanks to both of you for your help. This is a great site.

One thing I've noticed is, on a 2010 Prius, if the air conditioning top vents are pointed anywhere upward, people have a bad time hearing what is being said and the audio commands don't work so well, either.

Pointing those vents level or downwards seems to fix the problem.

The mic is generally optimized for the driver's position. My wife and kids try to talk when we're on speaker phone w/ family and they can only really hear me, despite the same speaking volume, clarity, etc.

Can you tell us how you did this, I have a package II with aftermarket Nav with built in mic and it is horrible. Need to find a better solution for the mic. ITA.

I procured the amplified microphone from a scrap yard I found on www.car-parts.com.
It came from a salvage yard 2012 prius V overhead map light console and I paid $50 for the entire overhead console.
I called the yard after noticing they had a 2012 Prius V radio available .
I never bothered to check the input voltage of this amplified microphone since it was a oem microphone that I mated to an oem radio.
