Yes, I received a recall notice yesterday in addition to the new OCI letter and maintenance manual.

Does the feel seem better or do you prefer the softer feel, also does the regen seem the same?

    Thanks

Have not ever experienced the problem and have never heard from Toyota or my dealer about it

As for customer service I think they get a failing grade. They call me and ask if I was satisfied with my oil change but when the media keeps telling everyone how unsafe these cars are,.....where's Toyota or the dealer?

Love the car, but think the company and dealer get a failing grade

I got a phone call from my dealer, Modern Toyota of Boone, last week telling me to come in for the brake fix. I went in today to set up the appointment and the service writer said they hadn't done any yet and I would have to wait for my recall letter before they could do it.

I've experienced the problem a few times since I bought the car last June and, although it certainly grabs your attention when it happens, I don't see it as that big a deal.

Got my recall letter for our Blue Prius yesterday, 3/8,.... we had the update done to that car on 2/12. Our White has yet to be done, but no recall letter for it. Go figure

Have not received the letter on the brake recall. Had the upgrade done last week. They had the car 55 minutes and did the brake update, drained the excess oil from the crankcase as they overfilled it on the first change, and had them check the transaxle coolant drain plug based on the TSB. I also had them order the new Climate Control screen as mine is blurry. I watched them do the work and asked for a printout showing the before and after and they had no problem giving that to me.

I had the brake problem before and could reproduce it every time on a rouch patch of pavement near my home. I can still reproduce the problem, but it is much better in that the braking pause is much shorter now. Before the update, if anyone had experienced it on this specific pavement patch, even if they had no prior knowledge of the problem or regen brakes, it would have grabbed their attention in a nasty way. Now, I believe only the most observant and aware driver might notice it. I can still feel it because I know what to look for. The brake pedal feels a little bit different, in that it seems to be smoother through its range, but I don't find it to be a major change.

It recurred twice yesterday, and to the same degree and under the same circumstances as before. Is there anyway to find out if the dealer actually made the update?

I don't know if their Techstream system will show the version number of the software or not but it sure would be easy for them to do it again just to be sure. If it were me I wouldn't hesitate to take it back and ask that it be redone.

As the dealer to provide a printout showing the before and after versions numbers so you can see what has changed.

My version was 103 at the start and 106 when finished. It showed it right on the computer screen as i watched the tech do the update.

    Is the ECU update working

I had the ECU update to correct the braking problem done this weekend. But tonight I experienced the braking problem again. Is anyone else continuing to have this problem after the recall work was completed?

Re: Is the ECU update working

    Hi Bruce,
    Not me.

When I experienced the problem (the day before the ECU was flashed), it seemed to me to mimic the feel I always had in my '94 Ford. Haven't experienced it since.

    Cheers

Re: Is the ECU update working

There has been at least one credible report that the dealer may not have applied SSC-A0B. Don't rule out 'incompetence' in getting the fix applied.

The other thing is the brake fix is specific to a well defined set of conditions. Can you describe:

    • Where it happens? (Assuming it is reproducible.)
    • What speed when it occurs?
    • Weather conditions?
    Thanks,
    Bob Wilson

We never experienced the alleged brake interuption, before or after the ECU re-flash.

I brought my 2010 Prius w/AT package in May of 2009. Never had any problems with braking at anytime in any weather on any type of roads. My 2010 Prius runs like a clock, it keeps on ticking.

Re: Is the ECU update working

I did not have any braking issues with my 2010 III prior to the brake recall. After the flash upgrade though, I could definitely feel the difference in the "feel" of the brake pedal in that it felt more like my past non-hybrid car brakes.

"Assuming" that you are talking about the same brake issue, or transfer delay between regenerative and friction braking, then I would agree that you may have an issue with the dealership not
    applying the flash upgrade correctly.

Re: Is the ECU update working

    Bob,

Before the upgrade I experienced the brake problem 4 times (after 1st 3 I did some research and found the 100 complaints at NHTSA). First time was going over a small icy patch, 2nd and 3rd on speed bumps in a parking lot on wet pavement. Speed was slow and braking was moderate (regen engaged I assume). 4th time was on snow covered road. I could make the condition occur at will. Car slowed nicely then brakes just released and car just cruised until more pressure was applied and friction brakes engaged).

After the fix I was driving at about 20 mph on wet pavement, in the rain and slowing when I hit a bump and the brakes released again. It doesn't feel all that terrible but I am afraid it will happen one day at an intersection and I'll end up in cross traffic.
