    hey guys,

new to the forum and car. want to install HIDs. Can someone post pics of the 55 watt DDM 6000k ?

also, F8L, wat exactly do u mean "problematic" ?

i dont plan on running any relay harness for the 55 watt HID kit.

Without a relay harness you risk burning up wires or cracking/melting connectors. Harnesses are cheap insurance. This is especially true for the 50w and 55w ballasts.

By problematic I mean that continued high voltage spikes, particularly without a relay harness, could negatively affect your stock wiring and connections.

TheDDM ballasts work ok but if you able to purchase OEM bulbs I would. Morimoto would be my next choice. Cheap bulbs can't cause problems and quality control sucks.

Cheap bulbs run much hotter than OEM and can cause damage to the projector bowl due to heat or extreme UV.

Cheap bulbs may not always look the same color or they may not be built well and will cause the cutoff pattern to look funky. They can also be dimmer than the partner bulb. It's the same with anything cheap be it bulbs, lawnmowers, cars etc. lol

A good cutoff pattern should look like this:

If you can find an OEM H11 that would work but keep in mind OEM bulbs are usually only 4100k-4300k so it may be too yellow for your taste. If you want a quality white light then I suggest the Morimoto H11 5000k. They look excellent in my fog lights.

Other Sizes: Morimoto 3Five Bulbs - HID Bulbs from The Retrofit Source Inc

Compare the upper headlight beam color to the lower foglight beam in this picture. See how much whiter the Morimoto 5000k is compared to my Osram 66240 OEM bulb? [IMG]

Here is what an HID beam should NOT look like.

The pics is from a gold94corolla on HIDPlanet. He stuck HIDs in his stock headlights in between retrofits.

He normally has a very night projector setup so this is not meant to ridicule his system. Here is his quad FX-R bixenon retrofit.

I installed a set of 6K HID headlights on my 2010 Prius model III. I bought the kit from Prius Accessory .com. I was wondering about the fuse requirement. I know the car has a 40amp for the low beam and a 10 amp for the hi beam. Since I am only concerned about the low beam will the existing fuse be sufficient? In the instructions it said to use a 20amp minimum fuse or it will melt. I think I am okay but just need some reassurance. Sorry I guess I am just a nervous Nelly.

I am with F8L, can someone post a clear wall shot of the cut off pattern in the Gen III?

The 40amp fuse should be fine. Most ballasts don't spike above 20amp. I think. :)

I just installed my DDM Kit! Here is a shot of it in the 2011 Prius III:

    photo.jpg

Notes for people looking for information on the DDM kit:

    -6000K DDM bulbs
    -55 Watt DDM ballasts
-Wire harness (from DDM) relay and fuse can be hidden inside the fuse box but shortens the wire length to the passenger side ballast. This wire was routed right above the gas engine and tied to the chassis via zip ties. Because of the limited length, I had to face the ballast towards the rear of the car to connect it to the harness. Although the igniter had to loop back towards the front, there was a perfect amount of length to connect to the bulb with a bit of slack to spare.
-The DDM bulbs as others have stated don't seem to be the best. I noticed ground shadowy effects. I contacted TRS about their Morimoto 3Five's, and they said they would work fine, but their life would be cut in half and the replacement warranty will be void due to a 55 watt ballast.
-I was skeptical about the wire harness at first, but after deciding on a 55 watt kit, it was a must in my mind. Do not be afraid about having to use one, it is VERY simple to install.
-The DDM kit does not come with a connection adapter to the stock headlight power connector. Since I had the wire harness and only needed one of the stock head power connectors to connect to the relay's signal wires(next to the connector plugged into one of the ballasts from the relay) I was able to move the plastic connector from the harness to the wire connecting the harness to the stock power connector. This also required pliers to push the pins closer together after they were in the connector to match up the other connector.
-The bulbs came enclosed in a plastic covering, you need to remove the covering, the cap, AND the white plastic washer around the base of the bulb. I believe this washer serves as a catch for the clear plastic container so it fits firmly around the bulb to avoid any damage to the bulb (try removing the washer and screw the casing back on, it will wobble). After removing the washer, you will need to stretch the orange/red seal washer around the area where the plastic white washer use to be. You will notice that the grooves fit the washer's base perfectly. I am noting this because I have read threads about people needing to really push their bulb in with force to get the bulb in and turnable.
-Turning the bulb into the correct place will require some force =).

This video was quite helpful too! (I am sure I got it from this, or another thread):

Thanks for all your help everyone, just trying to post/repost information so anyone with questions can find them easier!

Looking for some advice: I'd like to do the HID conversion for my 2010 Prius IV with solar roof. Quality and durability are more important to me than price. I'm looking at the Philips kit from kbcarstuff.com ($159) or the Morimoto Elite kit from theretrofitsource.com ($150). Both options come with relay kits, which looks to eliminate any possible surges and therefore flickering. I'm waffling between 4300K or 5000K, although leaning towards 4300K for maximum output. Definitely more interested in performance than vanity.

Any recommendations from those of you who have already been down this road? Are there better places to buy from? Thanks in advance... this is a great thread.

I installed an eBay kit (Xentec) i got for $40, no problems so far, but I haven't had my Prius long.

I have installed them in my previous cars and friends have them installed too. I non of them failed yet, it's been about 2-3 years.

I did have problems installing the first ones. The metal connectors inside the plugs have the tendancy to get pushed in, and does not make good contact. Resulting the HID not lighting. The guy just said make sure pull them out, and plug them again, making sure that the metal pieces are aligned. If they are not aligned they will push back in again.

Anyone know how to install the relay harness that comes with the Morimoto kit? Not sure how to get power to the relay.

The red wire with fuse should be connected to a constant power source(positive). See foglight install. The black wire goes to ground. There will be 2 short wire plugs and 1 long wire plug. One of the short wire plug will be connected to the wire harness that supplies the power source to the headlight bulbs. You should not make any mistake here because the wire harness that plugs into the relay harness will be a male or female socket - will only fit one socket. Obviously, the shorter wire harness from the relay should be located near the constant power source which will be the driver's side and the long wire harness from the relay kit will go to the passenger side headlight.

Okay I found my power source in the fuse box (Good thing). But in putting it all together before installing, I still come up with an extra female plug from the relay (Bad thing). Anything to do with electricity is my weak point, am I just a dummy and can't figure out the obvious? This kit is soooooo frustrating!!!!!

You only need the drivers OEM harness to plug in to the relay. The passenger OEM harness to the headlight will not be used. You need to tape it good so water won't get into it. Here's a photo for reference. Connect your wiring harness from headlights male plug to female plug of relay harness, relay's male plug to female plug of ballast and ballast male plug to female plug of HID bulb. I hope this makes it clear. See photo for reference

Okay now it's making sense. There was a lot of extra plugs and things that I wasn't sure where they went. The install instructions from TRS is pretty much garbage. They should remove it because it just complicates things. Thanks so much ImeanGreen, huge help!!
