CR2032s are 28 cents apiece from Digikey. You better get a bunch of them for $3.

Wow, that's a first...I'm pretty impressed that the mechanics figured that out so easily.

If the buttons get jammed, consider getting a used fob on ebay and switching over all the electronics over from the stuck fob to the ebay fob case. Lots cheaper I expect.

I've never heard the bolded part before. IIRC, I was somewhere between the 3-4.x (definitely not 5) year mark before I finally need to replace my fob batteries.

They seemed to last longer than the fob batteries on my mom's NAH (which also has a SKS system but from a TOTALLY different vendor).

I just installed up my last CR2032 battery so I just ordered some more as I need one for my other fob for that prophylactic replacement too. Maxell x 5 with a long expiry date for US$2.79 shipped.

I guess the benefit is you don't have to drive to the shop to pick them up. :)

    EDIT:

I just checked Digikey for Canadian shipments. Shipping for one 29 cent battery is $8.

"A shipping charge of $8.00 CAD will be billed on all orders less than $200 CAD*, with an additional $8.00 CAD charge for each back order shipment."

    Ouch.

I thought I read the 1 year thing somewhere, but maybe I am mistaken. (I don't have the manual in front of me. Maybe it was for a different model Toyota, I do not know.) I do know that while many have lasted several years, one here has had to replace his batteries after just 14 months.

As for me, I do it every 2+ years. It seems after a couple of years, the signal gets weaker. With a fresh battery, the signal is more consistent. Starting the car is still fine, but locking the car from far away becomes more problematic.
