    Wait... what?

I agree that getting that harness in the door was definitely a pain. I 've done it a couple of times now, since I had to remove it and reinstall it on the driver's side as I was doing some of my initial testing in addition to installing the new one on the passenger side... and there just doesn't seem to be a good way to do it. You've just gotta force it in and wiggle it a lot and hope that eventually it'll drop into place.

Sorry I referring to the hooks/grooves of the door handle area where the harness goes into

I just added SKS to the front passenger door of my Prius following the instructions in Brett's sks install.pdf file and the clarifications shown above for the wiring without adding the rear hatch sensor-antenna.

No significant problems, and it works great!

The harness is a pain to get in the right place (below the handle and then around the window track), but once there, all the clips pop into place easily. I also suggest not connecting the wiring connector to the handle until the harness is fully in place to make placing the harness easier.

I installed the passenger door antenna in series with the drivers antenna, and I don't notice any significant range reduction. I also used wire taps for all the connections (except butt splices for the red/green antenna wires at the ECU). A few wire ties helped to make the group of wires look more organized.

I can also confirm the P/N for the white Prius handle as shown on the first page of this post, i.e., 69210-74030-A0.

Many thanks to Brett for his work on this. GREAT job!!

I just acquired a 2011 Prius III and this looks to be a mod worth investing time in! Cheers to the kind OP for taking the time to share his writeup with us. I saw the wedding ring in one of the pics so cheers to the wife who gave this guy the time and space to get this done. I'm printing out the PDF as I write this.

Since this was successfully performed on a 2010, has anyone with a 2011 Prius successfully performed this mod yet? If so, did you notice any differences with the wire harness colors and/or part #'s? Are they the same as the 2010? I can't wait to get started on this project!! Thanks again OP, I'd toss you a beer if I could.

Hello. Today my SKS stopped working. And i don't know why.

At the morning everything was ok. I opened the car using the passenger handle.

But at the evening it didn't open or close. The antenna still detects the keyfob when aproaching from the passenger side because the dome lights turn on.

The driver handle works as usual. Can open and close the car touching it.

I thought on the keyfob batteries...and went for the second keyfob that came with the car. But resulted the same.

Could a wire came loose? I don't remenber any special bumps. I was sure to tie well the ecu wires when i installed the sks.

If it is not a loose wire...what anything else could be the problem?

It's quite likely that it's a loose wire. If that's not the case then the only other option I can think of would be that the SKS handle on your passenger side failed. Since the driver's side still works then we know the ECU and all of the rest of the bits in the car are OK.

Can you still lock the car using the passenger handle? Or does neither lock or unlock work?

When you connected the passenger handle there were 5 wires that you connected. The white wire with green dots and the white wire with red dots are both for the antenna in the handle. Since the dome light still comes on when you approach the car from the passenger side then we know that the antenna is working and these two wires are OK.

The white wire with blue dots is the power connector for the switches in the handle. If neither lock nor unlock works, then check this wire as it is required to be connected for both functions. It should be connected to the light blue wire on pin 32 of the ECU connector.

The white wire with yellow dots is the unlock sensor wire. If you can lock the car from the passenger door but not unlock it, check this wire as it's required to unlock the car. This should be connected to the yellow wire on pin 20 of the ECU connector.

The white wire with black dots is the lock sensor wire. If you can unlock the car, but not lock it, then check this wire. This should be connected to the black wire on pin 18 of the ECU connector.

Good luck and let us know how it goes:)

Is it that possible? What can fail in the handle? It has no mobile parts, nothing hits or scratches it.

No. I can't open or lock. Touching the sensors of the passenger handle has no response.

As i said, the antenna detects the key: the lights turn on, and the red led of the keyfob blinks.

When i installed the sks for the very first time, the same thing happened: some tape wires weren't properly connected. I fixed them and worked perfectly...so far.

But i wonder: how could a wire loose if nobody and nothing touched it?

    Some pics of the install:

    Fixed.

It was the blue wire. One of the tapewires had failed and the wire had lost, maybe due to a bump on the road.

So sks is working again. The best mod i have in the car.

Ok folks, happy to report I got er done!.....well the SKS passenger handle portion for now. I'm already enjoying the fruits of my labor and I'll work on the hatch switch portion of the writeup tomorrow.

Let me say, everything went pretty smooth till I had to install the harness. Oh my *(#%ing goodness, such a pain to install that harness. I had to hide the kid so he wouldn't learn any bad words coming out of my potty mouth. No joke you guys, my neck, back and fingers are still sore as I type this, what a PITA!!!

BrettS did an amazingly detailed writeup and btw, kudos to you my friend!

Ok a few things to share...

First off, you 2011 owners with JBL can give it a go. The wires identified by color in the writeup in regards to the white ones with colored dots and the solid color ECU wires all matched with my 2011 model/trim three (with JBL), not just the 2010s. I verified the pin numbers to the colored wires and they were all in the right place as described.

Second, in the write up, there is a part about disconnecting the cables to the door handle and lock by pinching connectors out of sockets. Not sure with the 2010, but the 2011 I did not not to remove the cables out of the socket, the entire plastic frame that holds the handle and lock switch easily pops right off with a little nudge.

Third, make sure your T-taps are actually tapping into to the ECU wires. I used a multimeter and found out the the blue wire was showing 12V but the Yellow wire was 0V. So I wiggled the T-tap connected to the yellow and the handle came alive.

Forth, BrettS already warned about this but I want to reinfoce, that if you cut the white wires make sure you at least label the wires. I used colored 3M tape to mark mine.

Gonna get some rest now and call it a day. Looking forward to installing the hatch switch tomorrow, wish me luck! :)

    Good job.

The install of the harness is a pain because is the first time we do it. If i had to install it again, it would be easier now.

I made the mistake of pluging the harness to the handle BEFORE put the harness inside the door....i was unable to fit it and was unable to unplug the harness from the handle. For instance, i though i had to break the harness.

Got the hatch done!! The hard part now will be trying to remember to not use the FOB anymore to unlock and lock my car lol!

Here's my experience installing the hatch switch:

    1) Digging into the headliner looking for that green wire, I unplugged the connectors but had to take a break cause my back was killing me. I closed the hatchback door went inside for a drink, then came back outside. The hatchback door would not unlock  so I had to go into the passenger side door and crawl into the hatch and painfully plug the connectors back together, then go out and unlock the hatch to then do the whole process over again. So don't close the hatch door while the connectors are unplugged. :p I'm such a dork.

    2) The headliner looks like its made out of fiberglass or something similar to it. I'm sure I got a bit of it in my eyes and lungs. I was also worried it would stick into my skin, so I'd recommend wearing some eye protection, something to cover your noise/mouth from breathing any of it, and wear a pair of thin gloves if you some around. In my case I went bare but it was still worth it. :D

    3) Installing the antenna behind the bumper. There was just enough gap during the tug to slide the antenna in. I see what you guys are talking about when screwing those bolts on the posts. The 2 threaded posts that were already there were painted. In my case, that was the main reason it was a PITA to screw the bolts on but I managed to tighten them with a mini socket wrench like someone here mentioned.

    4) Oh, thanks to the guy who mentioned picking the middle gray wire that is located in the driver side that needs to be tapped and connected to the diode. I also saw two gray wires there, one in the middle, and the other at the side end. Thanks for the clarification.

    5) I tested all three doors, made sure to connect the antennas in series as written in the write up. Maybe I'm just not noticing it but I don't get that delay you guys are talking about or any reduction in range from either the driver or passenger sides.

I am so happy to have 3 door SKS, this is the best mod that I have done by far!!! :) Since I'm on a roll here, I'm going to try the automatic headlight mod and add a backup camera over the next couple of days while I still have all the panels taken apart from this mod.

Glad to hear it worked for you... definitely a few parts that are a pain... that harness in the passenger door for one;) But I agree that it's one of the better mods... the auto headlights is one of my other favorites.

AWESOME!!!! Will this lock the door too? Remember the push button to lock. I was soooo spoiled with that.

ALSO Does anyone have a close up of the handles. It is hard to see on the pdf. it looks like these are the handles to unlock and lock from outside???

    Am I wrong???

These are both original (right) and mod (left) handles.

Now a have a question. Is not about the prius. Is about the lexus CT200h.

Here in europe the base model doesn't have the smart entry. Only the top level (and plus 6000 € expensive) has it.

Does anyone know if it would be possible install the smart entry in the CT200h as we did in our prius?

This is just speculation because I haven't seen the CT200h at all, but my guess is that no, it won't be possible. The mod described in this thread works because the lower level Priuses do have smart entry, but just on the driver's door... so we add new switches and antennas and tie them into the existing system.

However, from what you say, it sounds like the CT200h doesn't have SKS at all, so there is no existing system to tie anything in to. Adding SKS to a car like that, if it would even be possible, would require purchasing and programming a new certification module as well as the additional handles and antennas for SKS to work. This would be much more expensive and complicated.

Hello BrettS. What you say makes sense.

But there is the possibility that all the three version modules be the same. If it were the case, we only had to purchase the non existing hardware: handles, harness...

I love the ct200h, has better quality than prius. I think ct200h and prius are very similar. One proof of this: the xgauges made for 3gen prius worked in the ct200h. I tested the lexus with scangauge connected to it.

    Regards.
