FYI Los Angeles Level 2 Rebate

The average electrical contractor here in south orange county gets about $1,200 to pull permits, bust out your stucco (brick, clapboard, what ever you got), and install a second meter socket. But a $2k kick back would make the ripoff / high price that get charged for most hard wired L2 EVSE's palatable . . . barely.

So.... if I have a DWP Time of Use meter what else will I need to do? Pull permit and have a 220V dedicated line run to the garage?

 

Typically, they pull 240v off the main service panel, into a completely separate meter. But YOU have to provide the utility with the socket for them to stick it in. The 2nd meter gets its own special fee schedule ... provided you're charging after hours. Drill down into 'evnut.com's web pages and you'll find a picture of how it looks.

See - the really dirty rotten trick that some utilities do, is they'll charge you a 'fee' to have the 2nd meter. So by the time you pay an electrician to install the 2nd meter socket, and by the time you're paying a 'nominal' lease fee for the privileged of saving juice fees on the 'EV only' meter, the savings don't really ad up. Read your fine print ... I'm just sayin' ...

Just another Con! In Sacto, I contacted SMUD and asked about night rates for EVs, they did not even bother answering me! Should we have any people from SMUD on Priuschat, please look into night rates for EVs. (to include hybridEVs as well). :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:
