I posted awhile ago about tables seemingly being busted/lost w/this new software. :( Not sure if Danny responded.

(This thread has too much traffic for me to keep up with.)
Make sure you vote at Would you want to go back to vBulletin (the old software)? | PriusChat :D, if you haven't already...

I tried both "table" and "table=|" but since it 'eats' the tags, it looks close. I was thinking about asking Mr. Google to see if there might be some obscure, new format we need to follow.

    We have several workarounds:
    1. ASCII table - use a mono-spaced font and edit it
    2. Upload excel or something like it
    3. ASCII csv - same as an ASCII table but use "," to separate the values
Since I'm thinking of looking through some back issues of Consumer Reports and doing a more extensive investigation of their "score" algorithm, a table might be useful to report the results. Or an ordinary polynomial with a twist for the non-linear metrics.

BTW, I want to thank you for the links you've posted about the various Consumer Reports web pages. They helped explain although they don't improve what their "score" means.

No problem. If How we test hasn't been posted, it might help. I personally have had the inclination to dissect what goes into their test score...

For many of the tests, I'm sure they take into account the class/price range of each car. For example, it would be unfair to compare the interior quality of econoboxes to say a BMW 7 series or Mercedes S class. If that were the case, ALL econoboxes would be labeled as having shoddy interiors.

BTW, glad to see that you're more active here on Priuschat again. I think some of us miss your graphs. :D

The [code ] tag tries to make a monspaced multi-column list. Best to use the dialog box to input the data, and let the software do it's thing. The dialog is entered by clicking the icon that looks like "{}#" at the top of the edit box.

    Not seeing that.

    1. Click on Whats New.
    2. Click on Blue Button First Unread for Me
    3. Scroll to end of thread.
    4. Click on What's New - that thread is gone from the list because I read it.

Are you using back button? That would mean you are circumventing the forum software's updating ability, you are going back in time on your browser to before you read the conversation.

I don't see that anyone has mentioned RSS yet... I am a heavy user of RSS and with the old forums I could easily use RSS to read through new content on other sections of the forums that I don't frequent (I live in the Plug-in Prius section pretty much).

With the new forums, I like the ability to add RSS feeds for a particular subsection of the forums instead of the whole site, however, there is no content in the feed aside from the title so it's not very useful to me. Is it possible to make it so that the RSS feed contains the full content of the original post?

Ah OK, yes I do use the back button, as that's what I used in the old scheme. I'll have to try the sequence you suggest. I've never looked at 'whats new'. Shows ta go ya, we all hve different ways of 'surfing'.

I know I posted about busted images before, but here's some more 299,999+ Mile Club | Page 30 | PriusChat.

It'd be nice if that pic could be working again w/o work from usbseawolf2000. It had the 465K mile odometer pic from 2 fas 4 u.

Is there some global fix that will fix them all?

edit: WHOOPS! Never mind. Found them further down. But, there still is the problem of the busted image placeholders, despite the image being there.

Using BB code for a table:
    Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4 Column 5
    0 [tr][th]Header Column 1[/th][th]Header Column 2[/th][/tr][tr][td]first row first column[/td][td]first row second column[/td][/tr][tr][td]second row first column[/td][td]second row second column[/td][/tr]
    Trailing text

Ok, any <RETURN> within the table tags results in blank lines before the table is rendered. So the tags just need to be a single, stream of text.

    Bob Wilson

    ps. Code looks like:
[table ][tr ][th ]Header Column 1[/th][th ]Header Column 2[/th][/tr][tr ][td ]first row, first column[/td][td ]first row, second column[/td][/tr][tr ][td ]second row, first column[/td][td ]second row, second column[/td][/tr][/table]Trailing text

I've used " " before "]" to reveal the tag text as the " " defeats the closing tag "]". It looks a lot like HTML table tags.

Cool that you found the proper way to do it here, but that seems like either a bug or implementation difference.

The Prius/Prius 2nd Gen link is broken.

I am enjoying the new site and becoming very familiar with it. Thanks!

Leave it to Bob to figure out the tabling. In the previous iteration, when I needed a table, I would find one of Bob's posts and copy his source code.

It is not easy to document how to do table tags because if written in order, voila, you have a table:
    Column 1 Column 2 Column 3
    0 [tr][th]title 1[/th][th]title 2[/th][/tr][tr][th]row 1 col 1[/th][th]row 1 col 1[/th][/tr]
    Like this.

Testing showed a leading blank before the trailing "]" disables the encoding:
    • [table ] - begins each table
    • [tr ] - begins each row
    • [th ] - begins each column value
    • [/th] - ends each column value
    • [/tr] - ends each row
    • [/table] - ends a table
Since it is modal software, some sets of tags show up frequently:
    • [table ][tr ] - begins each table
    • [tr ][th ] - begins each row
    • [/th][th ] - separates each value in a table
    • [/th ][/tr] - ends each row
    • [/tr][/table] - common end to table
So take an excel table; export it to delimited text, and; use a common editor to substitute the pairs above as needed. Removed all ordinary <RETURN> or new line characters.

    GOOD LUCK!
    Bob Wilson

Bob (and everyone else), check out this help page for the BB Codes: They have changed a bit, but I think they can make tables look much nicer.

The link is a bit hidden right now - I'll work on fixing that. BB Codes | PriusChat

Notice that you can also embed Google Docs, which might make it easier to embed tables via Excel. We might have to play with how the embed actually works. I haven't played with it much.
Thanks to ProximalSuns, it looks like most of your questions have already been answered about the notifications, but I will add that I am still working on adding the daily digest back onto the site. I used that extensively, especially when I would be on vacation or otherwise away.
Text on white bleeds together? The original site had a white text background, too. I personally despise text on any background other than white.

The main RSS feed should be fixed now.
I'll see what I can do about getting the content back in the feed.

Maybe you missed my comment, not sure. But the Prius>Prius 2nd Gen link is broken.

I keep getting annoyed by an interface quirk I want to complain about, although it may be forum software rather than something Danny can change:

The dropdown menu 'alerts' is a rollover, meaning the user does not have to click the menu to see it open. Consistent behavior would have the open menu close when the mouse is not over it anymore, but that does not happen. So my reflex is to click the 'alerts' text to close the menu, but this leads to opening a new window of alerts. I've made this detour dozens of times already

Addendum: I see all the roll-over drop-down menus have this behaviour.

Any chance of getting more than 20 messages per page, Danny, as discussed when the new site was in beta?

Is there a way to list ownership of two Prii on our sidebar?
