Burned Out Dash Lights

Wow. Is that the new Prius? That dash looks better. Much improved over the 2010!

 

From the time I had mine apart I believe they are. I'm not sure how easy they are to get from anywhere but the dealer. I'd be tempted to replace them with LEDs just for the fun of it, but probably hard to get a uniform appearance unless changing them all at once.

Yup, they are replaceable, I just replaced mine (x2) before winter. They cost around $5 or $6 each from dealer. From the picture you attached, I think you need 5 bulbs.

I did replace mine before winter. I will try to find the parts number and let you know once I find it. My prius still doing fine, but I didn't drive as much as use to be. Therefore it only have 386000km on it. Let me know if you need anything more or give me a call since I lost my contact list .

Question regarding the replacement bulbs - do they come with the green coating/covers on them? My bulbs need replacement too, and I found they have green covers to tint the lighting.

Yes, the replacement bulb do come with the green rubber cover.

 

To do them all, you need seven. I know that because I went into the project with six!

If you've had the center stack fascia off before, you shouldn't have too much trouble. The trick is to get the assembly out of the dash far enough so you can get at the screws holding the fascia panel to the metal framework.

Those who are tackling the project for the first time should be aware that the plastic panel can get brittle with 10 years of aging. If it breaks, a new one is about $150 (btdt).

 

This seems to be a problem typical of many toyota vehicles. two of my friends drive 2nd gen ES300s with burnt out clusters and the cluster in my 2001 sienna was also burnt out. What gives?

 

You might have to plan to replace some light bulbs every decade or so?

Thanks to all of you who have posted info about how to replace burned out center dash lights. I just finished replacing the bulbs in my newly purchased 2002 prius last night. Removing the center bezel was very difficult! Had it not been for Priuschat, I certainly would have busted the bezel into several parts. Because of all the postings, I knew to be really careful! I knew to remove the emergency flasher and remove the two nuts below the display, slide the whole unit out a little bit, and look for the screws that hold the bezel. I found 4 screws that were not mentioned in either of my repair manuals. Two were on each side of the radio and two were just inboard of the air vents. It took me a long time to remove those screws! After that, unplug the wires, manually release the shifter, and it was out in one piece. Hooray! The bulb swap was simple. It went back together much easier. I did NOT reinstall the four screws. I am much happier now, because my prius has a beautiful green glow at night! Many, many, many thanks to all who post on Prius chat!

 

Wow that's a great looking nav. Does it have the same function as the original screen (like it shows the energy flow and all that stuff?) It looks like it came from a Lexus or something.I want to do the same for my car as a project, but i don't know which generation prius screen will fit for my 2002. I know you mentioned generation 4, but which year did you get it from?

 

can you tell me what you had to do to install it?

 

I'm not sure if I'm just lucky, or the plastic really gets a lot worse in a panel much older than mine, or if the way it's done can make much difference, but I did shoot this video back in August and just now got around to editing it for a hosting service, in the hope maybe it can save someone some aggravation.

Hello there, I have successfully changed the light bulbs.
EU model
I used third party bulbs ordered from conrad.de

bulb data: T1 socket 2.3mmx6.3mm, 12V 60mA
(i measured amps of a good one)
type: barthelme: 60 mA 0,72 W 21109126 369969

You can replace the bulb in the white round mounting.
The green cap is made of some silicon material, it can be removed from the original.

My experience:
1. Be careful with removing center console, fragile plastic! Watch the previos great video about that!
My addition to it is:
if you open the glove box, you can reach the two clips on the right from back and push out by hand.
if you remove the plate under the steering wheel, you can reach the two clips on the left.
It takes much less stress to the plactic frame.
2. a bit hard to remove the round bulb holder because of deformation by heat. I used a scalpel to grab.
3. you need 7 pieces or 8 if you want to replace the hazard light button bulb (it is the same but without green cap)

Fog light and headlight height adjustment button is having a 50mA bulb with 3.2x7mm size.
