    Hello Prius Plug-in owners!

My name is Armen and I am one of the creators of GreenCharge, a charge monitoring iPhone app for electric vehicles. We also make another app called PlugShare which some of you may be familiar with.

I just wanted to notify everyone that we have recently enabled Prius Plug-in support for GreenCharge. If you'd like to check it out, here is the link to the App Store or you can simply search "GreenCharge" on your iOS device.

The app is 100% free to download and use. Please let me know if you run into any issues!

How would this differ from Entune?

This differs from Entune by focusing solely on charging and adding features to help alleviate range anxiety. For example, the app sends push notifications to your phone when your car begins charging, is unplugged, stops charging, etc. It also shows you our current state-of-charge on the badge of the icon (the little red circle where the number of unread emails shows on the Mail icon) so you don't even have to open the app to know your car's battery level!

We are working on an Android version but unfortunately the existing app is only available on iOS devices.

I like that the app doesn't drain the battery using 50% of the CPU like the Toyota Entune app does (see Entune App drains battery | PriusChat) and that it provides a Reminder notification, which is more elegant than the Entune email notification.

But I find the updating of the charge status a bit quirky. The Entune app gets a quick charge status (the car seems to push charge status when beginning charge, unplugged, finished charging, and turning the car off to a server which then caches the status) in a few seconds by default and only queries the car itself if you hit the refresh button which takes 1-2 minutes. GreenCharge always seems to query the car, so it takes a long time to update. It would be nice if it could grab the quick/cached charge status by default and only query the car if the refresh button is hit.

Furthermore, if you open the Reminder notification, it opens up the GreenCharge app which then queries the car, generating another Reminder notification. I think that Reminder notifications should only occur if the car is queried since it takes so long and not when the cached charge status is retrieved, b/c this happens quickly and I'll probably wait for the update to be shown in the app. Or at the very least, don't query the car if GreenCharge gets opened via the notification to avoid the notification-query-notification loop.

I like your plug Icon better than the green bolt icon. Another Android user here.

PiP's don't have range anxiety . . . . they have gas anxiety . . . . the anxiety of running out of charge & having to burn gas.
As for no android app - maybe someone can explain the logic in that . . . . if you're going to leave out the most popular (based on sales) mobile OS and build for apple first, then hell, you might as well come out with a MS mobile app first ... it's just as illogical.

Well, it doesn't seem to want to connect to my car. The Entune app connects fine with my email and password, as does the entune website. But with the identical information GreenCharge rejects my login attempt. "Unable to connect to vehicle".

I presume it only works with Plug-in Prius Advanced, and not Basic

Can it start the Prius charging (overriding the timer) like the Entune app? I use that a lot.

Can it provide any other controls - like stopping charging?

I would love a replacement for the Entune app - I hate it.

I think it's crap that you have to have an advance pkg car to be able to have remote app access, way to drop the ball on that one Toyota.

[#humor] You wanted cheap, you got cheap.
no spare tire in the Base, either … bwa ha ha [#humor]

It is lame that the techno flagship of the Toyota fleet leaves out the most basic of tech advances in their Base model.
