I just got my notification for the 5000 mile service. But at this time of year, it's very difficult for me to take any time off work. So by the time I take the car in, I could be as much as 300-400 miles over.

It's not something I plan to do on a regular basis, but it's not the end of the world, right?

    FYI -- 2008 Prius, ~55,000 miles total.

You'll be fine......u might notice a slight drop in mpg but no major harm will be done.

Absolutely no problem the service interval in the UK and Europe is 10,000 miles for the same car.

Use of full synthetic motor oil allows regular oil changes to be done half as often...

Would you hack the console to make the "Maintenance" light go away? Or did you let it stay there for 5000 miles?

It'd be cool to turn it off in a way that'd allow me to turn it back on once I sold the car to a new owner... Like a fuse or something? Or maybe I could wire in a switch if I ever have a reason to take the dashboard apart?

Why go through all that trouble when its so easy to reset it?

    1. With Prius on, make sure the main odometer reading is showing.
    2. Turn Prius off.
    3. Hold down the ODO TRIP (odometer) button, press the brake and the Power button to start the car.
    4. Wait until all the dashes clear and your odometer reading is displayed again.
    5. It will count down another 5000 miles before turning on again.

yea... probably right... but if you add up all the time you spend resetting it every 5000 miles over the life of the car... That extra step adds up. Ideally, if I could change the value of how many miles before the light comes on, for example 10K for synthetic oil, I'd value it.

Oil breaks down.......filter get less flow.....who knows. All I do know is that when it was time to change my oil, my MPGs were a lil less.
