    FYI,
If you have a 2012 Prius II the wiring is coming off the radio plug L148 and run to the wiring harness under the headliner were the lift hatch harness connects.

I just picked up a Prius II a few weeks ago and finally stumbled onto this board. If I'm reading these posts correctly the OEM camry part should work, the challenge is in running wires to the appropriate pins in the back of the 2012 headunit?

I'd be looking for the 16 pin connector (L148) and using the same camry part would solder:

    Camera B+ to pin 7

    Camera V+ to pin 8

    Camera V- to pin 16

    camera ground to pin 15

with the same unit, it should be CV+, upper right is: CV-, lower left is CB+ and lower right is C gnd. Will the L149 plug on the back of the head unit already have the required reverse plug?

Would it be easier to use pc pin fittings to make the connections a little easier? So if I got all this info right, the steps should be:

-remove head unit (gotta find instructions to do that)
-run four wires from camera to L148 plug
    -mount camera

Based on the posting, it seems the real key to making this work is using the correct plug in cable (in this case soldering it) and run the wire to the camera and mount on the blank spot.

I listings on ebay for the 2010+ prius part, if the wire part can be fabricated as noted then this part should provide the best OEM fit?

You will need to take your headliner out, and it is about 8" back from the rear hatch rubber grommet.
There is a little easier place to connect the camera but you still need to run the wires to the front driver kick panel.
The (4) wire taped together. I cut them there and soldier the ones I ran from the back.
Camera B+ to pin 7 WHITE wire
Camera V+ to pin 8 RED wire
Camera V- to pin 16 BLACK wire
camera ground to pin 15 ORANGE wire

I did not hook up anything to Pin #2 on L149. Only the 4 camera wire.
The reverse signal (+12V when in reverse) goes into pin #2 of the 28 pin connector L149 (The steering wheel controls and microphone also use this connector)

    hope this helps you out.

It seems to be the driver kicker panel harness already pre-wire, please correct me if I'm wrong!

I didn't go so far as pulling down the headliner but the (white, red, black, orange) wire group are the camera wires.
I used a telephone tone tester to verify the wires to the hatch harness.

I too would like to install a rear view camera, but this thread is a bit confusing (6v/12v, pulling headliner, wire/prewired, Toyota/aftermarket camera,....)

Would someone be willing to produce a full write-up for installation?

Post numbers 6, 12, 19, 20, 22, 27, and 29 are the relevant posts. The pictures in these posts tell most of it.

If you have a 2012 Prius the HU is wired for the camera. You can access the wires behind the driver side kick panel.
(white, red, black, orange, taped together in picture I posted in #27) Or you can access then under the headliner at the wiring harness in the second Picture posted by Ray Chan in post 29(white,red,black,orange).

Post #6 by IMKenNY is a very good Write-up of how to do the installation. The only thing I did differently is not attaching Pin #2 on L149 BECAUSE he was put a 2012 base HU into a 2011 Prius II. The 2012s are wired for the camera BECAUSE the rear view cameras are required in Canada And the EU.

I ran a new set of wires to the driver side kick panel because I didn't want to pull down my headliners, then I cut the 4 wires (white, red, black, orange, taped together in picture I posted in #27) and soldiered the new ones there.

From what I have read and from what IMkenNY said you need a 6.5 volt camera. The 12V will not work.

Mounting the rear view camera is up to you. Here is pictures of mine.

I did a lot of modification to the camera body itself. Along with cutting off the rim around the pins, I removed the back of the housing, pushed the pins threw, drilled a hole were the pins were then brought the pins back out the hole I drilled and soldiered then to my new wires I ran for the installation. I used an epoxy putty stick I bought at Harbor Freight to seal the hole I drilled in the camera body.
I took the blank cover and cut a square hole in it to mount the camera to, using the epoxy putty stick to seal the camera to the blank cover, and also to secure the blank cover back in its place on the rear hatch.
I also use silver model paint to match the cars color.

So putting all this info together, it sounds it's possible to tap into the factory wiring via :

    1. Headliner location
    2. Driver side kick panel

following the instruction for the driver side kick panel, the wires would look like this picture and tap the existing wires
    http://priuschat.com/attachments/prius-camera-wires-jpg.41304/

Camera B+ to pin 7 WHITE wire
Camera V+ to pin 8 RED wire
Camera V- to pin 16 BLACK wire
camera ground to pin 15 ORANGE wire

Sounds to me the easiest way to do this would be via the driver kick panel since the pics look like the wires are already plugged in and a simple connection would do, run wires to back and mount camera?

Yes, it's for 2012 only. It can be either ways, from driver kick panel or headliner. it's easier from kick panel but longer wires routing (I should do it that way beginning with!) It is simple connecting 4 wires. It must use approximate 6V camera.

Why is the kick panel easier ? Is the headliner a pain to remove/replace ? I'm assuming the junction in the
headliner is right near the rear hatch somewhere. Also how are you getting from the hatch door into the
car ? Are you drilling a new hole or going through the existing hole that the lights/washer is using ? It would
be nice if you could slip the wires into the rubber tubes that are there now. That would keep them out of the
    weather.

In my experience with many cars and makes, there are two interior panels you generally don't want to touch/remove; 1. rear deck where speakers reside in a sedan and 2. headliner. Reason that they don't quite go back exactly the same after removal and that can introduce squeaks/rattles at some point. A third would be a door panel but there you often don't have a choice if you're looking to upgrade speakers.

I haven't checked the car out in detail but would imagine it's less work to tap into wires at the footwell and run out back through existing door channels than it is to remove headliner and run wires from there. Although the headliner install might make for a cleaner install overall if that's where the OEM install goes.

I plan to order an OEM camera first and then do a good crawl through the car to figure out the best wiring option. The other advantage to the footwell option is that you can easily tap into existing wiring and check/confirm that you made the right connections before proceeding with soldering the wires in place, I'm actually considering T-taps and wire pins to make this part even easier.

Removal headliner is horrible IMHO. I went the wire the rubber tube from the hitch, PAINFUL! I didn't drill any hole, but I removed one of plastic insert screw"closed to the license plate", so wire went thru.
