So my drivers side front speaker is making some not so correct sounds on bass hits. Sounds like it is bottoming out. The other speakers sound normal. Anyone else had this happen with their 7.1 system? I won't even bother with a dealer & warranty as I will only get a new speaker that will likely fail again plus all the BS of going to the dealer. Oh well, it lasted a whole 1100 miles and I don't turn it up past 25 on the display. Kinda lame for all the $$$ the 7.1 system costs. Now I understand what that Green Edge means or whatever these speakers are called; have to spend some green to get real speakers that won't die in the first 1100 miles. Silly...

Ouch! Sorry to hear that man. I have the base model (I pumped the bass all the way up) and I routinely have it at 30-40 haha.

We'll see how long mine last. I know it's going to be a pain but I'm going to milk any warranty I have on this car as far as it will go. Once I blow them out a final time with no warranty left, I'll go out and drop some real $$ on some real speakers.

I used to be into car audio in the early '90's and kept all my equipment. I'm going to see what I have for speakers that will fit the front doors. My dealer is 35 miles away in the city so that is the very last ditch place I would bring my car for warranty work. Any idea how the door panel comes off? I suspect it will be those fasteners that you just pull on the panel and it will pop loose but I want to confirm that so I am not prying on something that isn't intended to be pried apart :)

Actually the first set of screws are where the door handle on the inside are. If you pry off the panel to the right of your actual "handle" you'll see a screw there to take out.

Edit: Oh yes, be careful as those plastic clips are finicky. I don't know why it's always a fine line between coming off, and breaking but that's how life goes :-/

    WEOH,
I have the stock JBL speakers out of my car. You're more than welcome to have the one you need, although I am not sure I have the "7.1" system, but I do have the JBL Green. I have removed all the stock drivers and replaced them with aftermarket ones. I have a 2012 Package 5.
I felt bad throwing them away, so you'll kind of be doing me a favor by taking it!
PM me, and Ill be happy to get them going to you.

I swapped my door speakers for 6x9's and I made brackets out of MDF like he did. It does sound better but if Iwere to do it again, I would go with components and replace the dash speakers as well.

A two-way in the door would pull the sound stage down from the dash? I like how it is out in front of me now. Today I was listening to Sat and HD over the air radio and comparing them. Aside from the funny speaker, the Sat sounds like crap compared to HD radio. I better not get too involved in this or I will have to pop for an expensive head unit :( I have the speakers and amps from my previous days of car audio but you know how that goes once a guy gets going on that stuff again $$$

Yes it does, but that is more than offset by the better bass.

I definitely want to keep or increase the bass kick from the front doors. I listen to new country music primarily but occasionally listen to the old school Seattle rock bands.

Yes, just dropping in a set of 6x9's will make a big difference. Does yours have JBL?

If it does, I have seen those speakers on eBay.

It has the 7.1 JBL system. I think I seen some other thread that showed the factory speakers as paper coned very low buck looking speakers. I don't know if that is the non-JBL speakers or if they are all the same. It is super cool that fellow out west offering his factory speakers but I fear I would be just replacing my junker speaker with something that may fail sooner than later as the original speaker did :(

I haven't taken the door panel off yet :( That doesn't look like the pic someone posted in another thread. Now I suspect the pics I seen at first are the 6.1 non-JBL speakers.

That looks to be a generic toyota 6x9 JBL speaker. I replaced mine and someone said that their Alpine 6x9 were a drop in and... they weren't. The speakers I pulled out of mine looked like that except that the surrounds were not orange, but the frame was identical.

Was the reason the 6x9's didn't fit because the mounting hole pattern in the adapter or door was not for a standard 6x9? Somewhere I read there is a weird mounting hole pattern plastic adapter that is part of the factory speaker. Take it out and the door mounting hole pattern is nothing standard. Doesn't make sense to me to have non-standard speakers in any vehicle. I never expected my factory speaker to die so soon. Oh well. Time to get rid of the cheep stuff and put some better quality speakers in the car :)

The hole is too big for a standard 6x9. I took the original speaker, used it as a template, and cut an adapter out of 1/2 MDF. Then I used the template from the box and cut out the 6x9 hole and bolted the adapter to the door and speakers to the adapter. There is a thread here that shows what it looks like and he replaced the stock door speakers with 6 inch speakers. As I said before, if I were to do it over I would have gotten a set of components and replaced the squawkers in the dash as well.

Do the squawkers come out from the top or does the dash have to come out? I have plenty of speakers to cover all factory locations and then some :)

They come out of the top but I don't know how the grill comes off.
