Confused: Why does estimated EV miles keep dropping?

    how about 'i'm getting X actual ev miles in my pip', or, ' why is my pip not going as far in ev as it used to?'.

    Do you garage your PiP? I think the battery works best in the 70's. Doing scheduled charging that warms the battery up just before departure should help a bit as well.

    And yes, it does pay. Weather it's payoff is worth it to you is the question.

    All EV and PHEVs have a range that is dependent upon weather and driving behavior.
    How the battery system and drivetrain are engineered will affect how much of an impact those issues have.

    It is critical for all manufacturers to educate consumers on what type of ranges they can expect. However, because this varies so much with regional weather, trip distance, trip route, number of trips, and driver behavior, they can't give you a set number.

    The best everyone can do is to be aware of what impacts range, be aware of your own driving habits and distance needs/wants and buy the vehicle that best meets your wants.

    With gas at a premium the PiP sales are excelent. In fact, the Prius is the best selling car in the largest populated state (CA): Toyota Prius best selling car in California - Oct. 23, 2012 - So, it would seem that no one is listening to the OP regarding 'don't buy a prius' . . . . . . and thus it follows no one understands the OP's wisdom regarding "fixing" the PiP traction pack, either. :D

    EV mode only has 50 hp while HV has a combined 108 hp
    Have you checked your tire pressure? Do you begin your drive on the freeway? uphill? Not sure why people refuse to check their tire pressure.

    The schedule feature will not fix what your unhappy about. Leaving my car charged for over 24 hours on Sat-Sun, my EV range discharged by only 0.1-0.2 miles.

    EV mode only has about 50hp available to it. If you try to drive 50 mph, or climb a hill you are going to be pushing that poor little engine so hard, its going to use a lot of battery to not move you that far. In HV mode you have 108 hp available, so high speed and uphill portions of your commute may be better to use HV mode.

    Inside the drivers door is a sticker that tells you Toyota recommendations: 35 front, 33 back. The tire max PSI is 40. Some people like to go a little higher than recommended, maybe 39 front, 37 back.

    I resisted checking mine. Not sure why its a source of pride not to check your tires, I guess its like not wanting to ask for directions, lol. Anyways I finally did and I was at 27-29 psi.

    The suggestion for scheduled charging is aimed at "pre-warming" the battery pack just before using it more than trying to squeeze the highest state of charge. Charging warms up the battery. Not as big an issue in LA, but those folks in colder climates are suffering from lower battery outputs because of the temperature.

    Are you driving at higher speed in EV mode? Using heated seats? They will use more electricity and reduce your EV range.

    A quick search said aftermarket heated seat draws 36-45 watts each. Headlights are 110 watts (55 each).

    If you have the headlight and a heated seat on, that's about 150 watts. PiP owners are getting 200-300 watts per mile, so 150 watts extra draw is significant.

    Watching the election... can't think straight now :)

    An hour of headlight and 2 heated seat would cut down about 1 mile EV range.

    thanks usb. so if i was getting 16 miles on a 2.7 kw charge, that's about 170 watts per mile? i'm trying to get to headlamp cost and i guess the balance is cooler weather.
