Mine are always on if my headlights are on. For visibility, and it looks nice :)

I'd like a 55W equivalent halogen lumens H11 LED replacement bulb...

NONE of the answers is correct. Fog lights are for fog use only. People who use them all the time are very inconsiderate to other drivers. They produce lots of glare on wet roads.

Even when I had cars that had them I wouldn't use them.

In which case they still function well as stone catchers...

In North America Fog lamps can only be on when the headlamps are on. Check your laws and you'll find this is the case.

The -reason- we invented "fog lights" was that head lamps reflect off the fog back into the drivers eyes, making it difficult to actually -see-. Fog lights are most effective in yellow, as that colour reflects least in fog.

But our illustrious lawmakers were worried we would use the fog lamps as headlamps. So they make them useless, BY LAW.

Pearl had them and I tried them as driving lights (they were white not yellow). They were useless other than they helped me to see what I was about to run over (they only illuminated about the first 20 feet of highway).
Pearl S doesn't have them, and with the way the law is I don't intend to add them.

At less than 100% intensity, they do however make great, legal (in New Yawk, at least) solo DRLs .

When I installed the fogs on my III I used the marker lights as a signal source for the relay so the fogs can be used with or without the headlights both high or low beams. This was explained in the install thread and where I got the idea. Like I said before I don't use mine other than in Fog or Heavy snow as I run HID bulbs in them and when not in fog or heavy snow are way too bright for other drivers. on my Gen II the driving lights had LED bulbs and just looked cool they didn't make for any problems for other drivers since they put out very little light. I say driving lights as that is what NYS calls the lower mounted "white" lights. They define a fog light has having a yellow lens or producing a yellow light.
