JustDidIt - Modding My 2007....The 2008 Touring died.

    So Im new to the Prius right. If I upgrade my rims/wheels to a bigger size than the 15" on there, will my speedometer still be accurate or will I need any kind of programming or anything?

    Im fine with the 15" but I'd like a cooler looking wheel.

    Its all in the diameter of the tire...if you can upgrade ur wheel size but keep the tire diameter the same as stock by going with a lower profile tire (Stock with 15" wheels : 185/65r15 with a diameter of 24.46 inches and moving to a tire such as : 215/35r19 with a diameter of 24.92 inches 65&35 being the tire profile - won't change the speedometer TOO much but enough to make the car show/read that its going at a slower pace.)

    hmm.. not sure...but I don't think this Prius GT300 handles like a Conestoga Wagon...and I know its not running stock 15's 16's or 17's :)

    Relatively easy with a your choice in color of Vinyl tint available cheaply on eBay, a soft edge felt Squeegee Tool and a heat gun. :)

    Thanks. I had no idea. I read something about putting the headlights in the oven at 200 degrees. Im going to go look now on ebay :)

    well it sure looks way cooler than a conestoga. but i bet it doesn't have stock suspension (and i don't mean lowering springs) and i bet it wouldn't like DC potholes too much either. but the super low profile tires ride very hard; you'll feel every pebble and crack. and when you bang through a big @$$ pothole, you can bend or crack the wheel.
    i'm watching motegi track lites on ebay. clean looking and w/ LRR tires you might not lose any MPG. when either of my cars needs tires, i'm gonna try to weasel the wife into letting me get some 16"s. with the upgraded sway bars, it already handles way better, and i got 205/60's now. i think the slightly larger tires actually make the speedo better calibrated.

    Check on YouTube there are tons of videos that show how to apply vinyl to tail and head lights. I just smoked the Center and added red to the top and bottom of my tail lights with vinyl. It was a pain, but with some practice it would get easier. Some hints, know which side has the glue before you measure and precut. Use a real heat gun, not a hair dryer. Apply the vinyl in a heated garage or during warm weather. You can easily make your own application solution. I'll post my pictures in a new post tomorrow.     After trying several EXPENSIVE reverse LED setups and being clearly disappointed. I did a retro-fit 35w HID H3 5000k Reverse light setup... using a wiring harness ran from the 12v using the original wiring for the turn-on leads.

    Issues of not being able to see at night in reverse no longer exist. I had read in different forums of others doing it to BMWs, Infinitys, Chevys and other imports...so I figured "Why not the Prius?" Others were worried about AUTO cars and how the reverse lights "blink-on" for a brief moment as you shift into drive from park...Not an issue with the prius. Other issues people were running into were trying to run the 35W off the stock wiring. $15 wiring harness ran from the 12v battery solved this.

    DDM 35w slim HID 5000k kit with wiring harness: $45
    Radio Shack T-tap splice connectors: $6

    I used T-Tap Splice connectors from RadioShack to tap into the stock reverse light harness. That way this mod can be EASILY reversed back to stock because no wiring was cut.

    and also the generic eBay Front Strut bar brace (boring box .. no pix). I'll post pics once I install them. Hopefully b4 I put in the GC Coilovers so I can feel the difference over stock.

    Next will be the Progress Technology 62.2150 sway rear bar ... If I have time, I'd rather go get an OEM 24mm Corolla or Matrix Front (48811-AB011) and Rear (48812-AB011) Sway Bars from 'You-Wrench-It" ...but we'll see.

    After many failed attempts - One-off Custom Cold Air intake:

    Currently no CELs... Currently using Torque with Android phone to monitor intake air over ambient air. Definitely an improvement over stock. Prius now has quicker throttle response, pulls stronger now going up hills and feels quicker all around...but a true dyno will disprove/prove my personal butt dyno... soon to come.

    then Full exhaust... :)

    I love my Progress rear swaybar, I haven't upgraded the front swaybar like 69Shovlhed. He said it was a PITA, and took a lot of work, but still could be done and made a huge difference.

    Those "early" Christmas presents look Awesome!

    Might be a bit easier for you cause your car is 5 years newer; 5 years less likely to have seized up bolts, especially the exhaust bolts.
    and it makes me nervous to loosen the subframe bolts; my friend's rear subframe bolts broke when we went to loosen them to add E500 sway bars to his E300 diesel. we spent a few extra hours torching, drilling, easy-outing the broken bolts.
    it may also be that depending on which plant the donor corolla came from, the sway bars might not be formed exactly the same. toyotech did not say he needed to drop the subframe, only the exhaust. my sway bar had different bends than the stock bar. the stock bar came out without dropping the subframe, but the corolla bar wouldn't quite fit through until i let the back of the subframe dangle about 2". it is possible that west coast corollas are mostly from japan, but east coast corollas are either canada or kentucky. probably the sway bars aren't made in the same factory for japan as NA.

    replacing the front bar balanced the antisway much better; it seemed like having only the rear heavy bar made it want to oversteer in a less controlable manner, like the rear wanted to fishtail. after doing the front bar, it seems very stable and in control even when pushing it.
