We're getting off-track now, I think there is a dash cam thread around here somewhere. Regardless, I narrowed down to the Itronics and the BlackVue 400, I picked the Itronics after seeing it's nearly $100 less and the quality of the video seemed the same. There were also some overheating reports on the BlackVue.

No offense but let's keep the dash cam chat going over here: Dash Camera | PriusChat

I put Winterforce tires PLUS studs on my PIP. My mileage dropped about 8 miles per gallon...may seem like a lot, but I don't care. I like having the extra traction and safety that goes along w/ it.

In another thread there's a link to TireRack winter tire tests. In them, they actually got slightly BETTER mpg on the winter tires. The downside seems to be louder road noise and shorter longevity.

I think the biggest "causer" of dropped mileage are the studs, compared to just the snow tires. Just my 2 cents. But my PIP is like a little tank on these crappy winter roads! :)

My 2004 Prius ran studded snow tires, the Goodyear Nordic which I bought from Canadian Tire. Tried a variety of studless tires and although they do work better than "all season" tires in snow, nothing beats a good studded tire on ice. BTW the Goodyear Nordic was called the Goodyear UltraGrip 500 in Europe.

Unless you are prohibited from using studded tires, run them. With my Prius, at most I lost 2-4 mpg running the studded tires. The WinterForce is an ancient winter tire design, looks like they designed it in the 1970's. And even if you do lose 8 mpg running studded tires, a single crash wipes out your theoretical fuel savings by not running them. If you get stuck, you get 0 mpg.

My Significant Other runs factory studded Nokian Hakkapeliitta 7 on her 2012 Chevy Impala. It's actually more stable on glare ice than my 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser running factory studded Nokian Hakkapeliitta 5 Sport Utility. No difference in fuel economy with her car

In the end its about safety, your and those driving around you.

Had a chance to go for a ride in a factory plug-in a few months back. Very nice!
