I'm looking to get a dash camera dvr for my car and was wondering if anyone has installed one in their car. Most of the ones I see on eBay are from China so there's not a lot of reviews on them.

Any recommendations or feedback would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

That's a great price point. I really like the ability to play back on the device and being able to run without being plugged in (even if it's only for about 30mins).

theres quite a few threads on here. i remember reading one where it gives you g forces. so can you prove in court if you were moving or how fast at the time of impact. there are some with front and rear view. another one had a parking/sleep mode where it activated or was on when you parked to catch to those parking offenders.

    other things to look for:
-display. does it come with a display. do you have to output to laptop? the displays are handy b/c you can show the cop right there.
-memory. internal memory? how much? external - sd card? how much does the file break up into... 5, 10, 15mins files?
    -gps integrated.
-mounting visible vs hidden? you dont want someone breaking into your car thinking that he/she can easily steal a gps unit.
    -quality - hd? 720? 1080?
    -field of view: wide lens?

If you have a smart phone there are black-box apps out there. They will record video as well as speed, acceleration, etc. I know with my android phone it can be set up to automatically run when it is snapped into my car dock. At least with android there are a few different apps, they all have free trial versions, and the paid full versions are all pretty inexpensive - $5 or so.

I'm going to check to see if they have one for the iPhone. Sounds like a good alternative.

the problem with phones is that you can't store much information. the better ones have sd card slots so you can store a ton, especially in small file sizes.

But keep in mind that if you are actually using it as a black box you do not need to keep hours of video - you just need a couple of minutes before the accident.

I've been reading up on this topic. I've used this site dashcamtalk.com, forums, and Youtube reviews for my knowledge.

I'm eyeing the ITB-100HD or DR400G-HD II right now but also waiting for other products to hit the market.

I thought I read a thread recently where they had bought a dash cam or rear cam that would start recording if it sensed the vehicle got it? I recently had my wife's car that got hit and they didnt leave a note. Thinking back, I should have bought something like that so that I could catch the person that did it. I was thinking if I installed that on both vehicles and always parked with the back in, then I wouldnt have to worry as much about the front? Or just maybe buy 4 of them (2 for each for front and back).
