Just got the following e-mail from Toyota. I assume that one has to be connected to the car with the Entune app to get this:

    Dear Toyota Owner,

Thank you for your recent purchase of a new Toyota. We hope you are enjoying all of the great features and functions in your new vehicle, especially Toyota's revolutionary new multimedia system– Entune®!

We are very pleased to announce that your vehicle will soon be receiving an upgrade for your Entune system. This upgrade will enable voice recognition for Pandora®, iHeartRadio, OpenTable® and MovieTickets.com™ apps. This upgrade will be delivered to your vehicle "over the air", so all you will need to do is click "OK" on your navigation/audio screen when your vehicle prompts you to accept the Entune upgrade. This upgrade is being provided at no cost to you and should take less than 10 minutes to complete. (Your vehicle needs to be running, so please do this in a well-ventilated space).

Please be on the lookout for this upgrade to arrive in your vehicle on or around June 28, 2012. Thank you again for your purchase, and we hope you enjoy the new capabilities of your upgraded Entune system.

    Sincerely,

    Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A, Inc.

yeah that should be the 2.1.0 upgrade and then following that is the 2.1.1 OTA update. But I don't think those update versions jive with the AT headunit.

FYI, 2.1.1 just updates the sports app. Also people were getting it as early as August, but it showed up for me only two weeks ago, and I've had the car since October.

Ok, to clarify, I was under the impression that the Entune update for the AT was OTA and via USB for the base, sorry for the confusion

I called the customer care and they told me that my PiP AT does not get the update just as I suspected.

I believe this is the case, I was just more curious about the discrepency in the software versions. It makes sense 2 different platforms would be on 2 different software versions, I had just read in another thread someone made a comment that the update put both styles on the same version. My guess is that comment was not accurate.

On the Advanced, the Sports App (and the Stock Price App, as well as several others I can't think of right now) is one of the Sirius/XM applications, whereas on the Base, it goes through the Internet connection on your phone to get the data. So while the results may look the same, it's an entirely different application internally.

Right, and this is wrong. The 2.1.0 update had to be done over USB, but all future updates will be OTA.

i'm going to link to this thread in the FAQ.
OP, however, can you please explain this part:
. - (found by clicking the toyota logo in upper left in entunes)
Which screen is this on? Is it in the car or the phone app? In the base, the way to get to it is Setup→General→Down arrow→System information, and 2.1.0 is the latest (though there is an APP update to the Sports app which makes it 2.1.1)

I have a new 2013 AT, and there are later versions of all of the software other than Entunes on it. Here's what came with it:

    Navigation (AT): V6673220
. - (found clicking update under general tab in setup)
    Bluetooth (AT): 21.210
. - (found clicking update under general tab in setup)
    Grace Note (AT): 05052 (2012-06-1)
. - (found clicking update under general tab in setup)
    Map (AT): 21-12-27 (2012-06-1)
. - (found by clicking maps in info tab)
I'm not sure how you'd get these newer versions though if you didn't have them already.

Unfortunalely I feel abandoned when it comes to the software updates. Toyota claimed that there will be more apps coming soon when I purchased the PiP AT last year. Almost a year later and I have not received any updates, additional apps, or information on any upcoming apps. Does anyone know if there will be any additional apps coming out? Any improvements to the current apps such as the weather? I find it to be useless if I have to figure out where I am before it shows me the weather.

Tech is not a priority with these people. People buy a car, and it's apparently assumed (by Toyota) that you will not need/get another update until you buy a new vehicle. However, it's not just Toyota that makes this erroneous assumption. It's practically all of the car makers. You'd be better off getting an iPad mini and using that for most of your functionality - that is if you ever want to be up-to-date once you drive your car off the lot.

Even the service department won't give a rat's-azz if anything goes wrong with your tech. The consumer is on their own with the tech problems. For example, after a year, I still have not been able to upload a picture as a screen. I'm not technically obtuse, either. Do you think the service advisor knows how to do this? No. They plug the car in, see that everything is "working" and shrug their shoulders. This is an extreme example, but it points to the much bigger problem.

Sad but true. I think I'll just get a base model next time and add my own tech. I guess updates usually means bug fixes and not enhancements to a majority of auto makers.

This is not a bad idea. I think my next is 20k, but I'll get it on the worksheet so it's in print that the "Customer Requests…" Then at 25k I can put the pressure on about continuing business. They probably won't care. Years ago, they replaced the steering in my Solara ($1500 out of warranty). I think that was my one-time 'goodwill' repair for the rest of my life. LOL
