Great to hear. Stay extra 5-10 mins longer?

You can try this method.... Charge it full. Before you leave, turn on both heated seats to HIGH. Once the seats get hot (about a min), leave the house.

Each heated seat at High pulls about 0.3 extra amp, so the idea is, they would lower SOC enough in a min. PiP electronics (inverters, etc...) idling pulls 1.2 or 1.3 amp. Maybe turn up the sound too but I have only seen maybe 0.1 amp draw from the sound system.

:) yes, i pulled into my garage with .1 left and was sure the ice was going to come on! and that was nursing it all the way home. i'm definately using the drivers seat. i can drive in the opposite direction for a tenth and come back, but in the end, i'm accomplishing the same thing. or i could use len's method and just put it in neutral. kinda wish i had a decent electric heater now to point at the windshield!

I was reading the manual (halelujah) and it mentions that if the battery temp is too high or too low the ICE will start. That's one parameter I haven't been watching but will from now on. At least the cold part at this time of year. :)

mine is in a 40-45 degree garage and i typically charge just befor leaving, so battery temp is probably higher than someone who charges outside and finishes earlier than they leave. however, priuskitty charges outside and her engine never comes on, so that may kill that theory.

For me it's to understand why the engine starts so that we can determine if it's something that the driver can control if they wish to keep the engine off. Also, I do not believe there is anything mysterious about the Prius' logic. It was programmed by people and that programming can be reverse engineered through careful testing. You can't use a tool to it's fullest potential if you don't even really know how the tool is going to behave.

That being said, I'm 99.9% certain that mine is a case of excess regen. Using neutral downhill has eliminated the mysterious engine firing. I just can't figure out why it waits until I'm done going downhill and driving along at 40 mph before coming on.

EDIT - Apparently the way the logic works is that the ICE fires once the PiP's inertia is sufficient that braking would regenerate enough to overcharge the batteries. That explains why we're all seeing the ~40 mph trigger.

watching CSI NY and Blue Bloods lol. Maybe driving 15 MPH initially warms up the battery due to the chemical reaction of the battery discharging, because when I went to Sam's Club the other day I drove down the side streets with a speed limit of 25 MPH (going 15 to 20 MPH) till I had to enter 13 mile road at 35 MPH. and, yes, my man boobz are the same size. lol:ROFLMAO:  :D

  15. Why, start charge earlier.

  16. Coming home yesterday after exhausting EV, my last 4 bars were 100 mpg, 1 min. Bars. ( Pulsing and gliding ) 35 mph speed limit, gentle rolling hills.
