Well that 4.0l SOHC engine is BULLETPROOF, you could've used baby oil in the thing and it would still last forever :D

And Ive used Supertech full synthetic before, its very similar to Quaker State synthetic in comparative analysis. For the money, its a good and too often overlooked synthetic oil.

Typical Oil Change Interval: This was the first change (for me) in my recently purchased 05. Planning for 10,000 miles with a filter change halfway. We'll see. My techy son tells me the Purolator PureONE filter beats others hands down catching smaller particles.

I'm not real keen on midway filter changes. It's just that by the time I get my tools out, lift the car, get something to catch the small amount of oil and clean up - I may as well have done a complete oil change anyway. Personally, if I wasn't confident in filters lasting more than 5k, then I just choose a cheaper oil and do 5k oil/filter changes.

Actually I just cut open a couple of filters (from my Prius) that had each run 10k miles. The physical integrity looked perfect on both (valves, end caps, media pleating etc). After looking at the filter construction I'd have very little concern about anything other than media loading limiting the life of the filter.

BTW, these weren't OEM filters (dealer was charging me $23 for the OEM filters grr, so these Ryco ones work out a lot cheaper). Unfortunately I didn't take a photo before I mangled it by prying off the metal end caps, but it was in nice shape. :ROFLMAO:

    Oil weight: 0W20
Oil change interval: 10,000 miles I live in a mild climate so ignore the one year limit, run it about 16 months

Absolutely no concern about the filter lasting 10k miles.

I just put in my winter refill.

Last spring refill was Mobil-1 5W-30 Extended Performance - I went about 10000 mile on it
Keep in mind Toyota recommends sticking to 5000 mile drain interval (Gen2) and I assume they have a good reason for recommending that.

We do not know Toyota's reasoning on oil change intervals since there does not appear to be much logic about them. Gen2 Prius has always had a 10,000 mile oil change interval in UK/EU while in the US it has been 5000 miles. The gen3 version in the UK/EU has always been 10,000 miles while in the US it started at 5,000 and has since been revised to 10,000 miles.

That is why I like my Honda 2006 Hybrid. It has a built in Maintenance Minder. It tells you when to do almost everything. Oil change every 12-15 thousand kil. "A" service includes oil filter, "B" service no oil filter. In other wards the filters is changed every other oil change. Air and climate filters, spark plugs , trans [CVT] oil change are all on this minder. I am not sure why more car company's are not using this type of system. Great for folks that don't understand how or when to maintain their auto's .:) H

On the UK version of the Prius item can be put into a service menu such as breaks, tyres, filters, 12v battery, oil, and much more. I find it strange on the US gen3 the oil change is now 10,000 miles, but Toyota are not updating the software so you still get a warning at 5,000 miles, crazy.

Not from the dealers viewpoint. That gets a large share of owners into the dealers service department every 5k miles and presents money making opportunities for their service departments.
